I ran through the forest, zigzagging between trees and rocks. I looked back over my shoulder even though I shouldn't. I should just keep running, try to find them, my safety. Find him. Run, run... run...

I jumped over a fallen tree, rolling over before I hurtled down a slope. When I trembled for foothold I cast a hasty glance upwards.

They hovered over me like hungry wolves. They stood at the edge of the cliff and stared at me. I howled, called for my mate to save me! But I couldn't avoid the dangers. Would they get me?

"FUCK THE HELL NO!" I flapped around wildly as I flew out of bed. My legs got caught in the blanket and I fell on the cold floor with a yelp, entangled in the large fabric. "No, fuck help!"

"Ryan!"

"The fuck no!" I burst, trying to break free. "You don't catch me you filthy beasts!"

"Ryan!"

"Reed! REED! They try to take me!"

"Calm down!"

"I calm down!"

I stopped in my attempt to break free, lying still at the floor as I gasped for breath. My eyes welled up and I felt confused. I flinched when I felt someone trying to free me from the covers and in the next second looked up at Reed's worried and confused face.

"Reed," I gasped, leaning up on my elbows so he could embrace me. "They... I..." What happened?

It was a dream, a nightmare. But I didn't remember much. Just how I felt hunted, exposed. Someone tried to take me away from him, from who? Reed.

I hugged him tightly and nuzzled my face in his chest as I tried to gather. My tears flowed slowly, and I trembled. It felt so horrifying somehow.

"Come," he helped me to my feet and back into bed and I curled up against him and he pulled the covers over us again. "It was just a dream."

"A bad one, for sure!" I burst, clinging to him. "I... It felt so real, Reed. I... I think I was hunted!"

"Do you remember by what?" Dark and fury beasts flashed past my mind.

"I think it was wolves," I mumbled. "Um, they were big and... I... I dunno, I think I fell."

Reed pulled me up on his lap and I nuzzled against his warm chest. I had felt so hunted, and... frightened? But it was just a stupid nightmare. I've had those before, it's nothing new.

I sighed. It was a long time ago that I had a nightmare. The few times I remember dreaming, they have been good dreams. But when I was younger I used to have nightmares. I had a period when I had to sleep with Mom and Dad in their room when I woke up screaming every night.

"They say that nightmares are a result of our brains processing of impressions. But grandma always said that they were a glimpse into our future, or our past. I don't know if she meant past or future lives or in the life you're living right now, she had so many ideas. You know, superstitions and stuff," Reed just kissed my hair. "If it's a glimpse into my future I don't want to be part of it."

"I promise you; I will keep you safe." I looked up at him.

"You promise?" He kissed my nose and I smiled. "But it was just a stupid nightmare. What time is it by the way?" I glanced towards the bedside table. "Well, just as well to get up since it's past 7am."

"We can cuddle for a while if you want." I smiled, nodding.

I loved to cuddle with Reed, and we did it a lot. It was the intimate closeness, his warmth and safety. Although I had a good desire to throw myself at him and let him do whatever he wanted with me and vice versa, Reed is a sophisticated man. He takes it easy. He doesn't touch me in a horny way and deflects my attempts in a soft way.
