I've never been shy. I have always been outgoing and gifted with a, if I may say so myself, certain charm. I've always been described as talkative who loves to chat with people, something some employers found a little too difficult when I talked away their customers or scared away prospective clients. Meeting new people has always been a joy and being able to show who I am as well.
But to stand at the back of the estate on the stairs up to the kitchen, looking out over the park which stretched towards the large forest, where a bunch of strangers stood and stared at me... It was as if I forgot how to speak, and it felt like my heart skipped over beats.
Everyone's eyes were turned on me. The few younger children I saw clung to their parents, and someone who looked like a teenager stood leaned against a tree, looking bored with crossed arms.
I flinched when I felt Reed's hand against my back, and I stared quickly up at him. He smiled calmly at me before taking a deep breath, taking my hand in his.
We began to walk down the stairs. My legs felt weak, and I held on to Reed for dear life. I trembled faintly, and I clenched Reed's hand in mine.
"You won't shift," he just reassured me.
I had time to take in a few things about these new beasty people. The first thing was that the closer we got to them, the better attitude they got. They regrouped in a semicircle where everyone made sure to face us, or rather Reed.
The second thing I noticed was how incredibly beautiful everyone was. They had smooth features and... unique appearances. They all looked like more beautiful versions of humans, like... like Elves or something. And Reed claims they aren't supernatural.
The men were bigger, it showed. Not extreme but they were like Reed muscular while the women were slightly neater.
I let my gaze fall on my own body. I have transformed and yet I'm skinnier, not that muscular at all. I'm fucking neater as well! I'm... I'm odd.
The last thing I noticed was how all the women stood on the left side of the men except Alex who sat on the edge of the stone wall and dangled with her legs, and who I assumed was her little sister who stood next to her. However, she was wearing sunglasses so I couldn't see if she was looking at me or Reed.
We stopped in front of the others, and it became completely quiet. I took a trembling breath, wishing to hide behind Reed.
"Pack, family, I want to introduce you to Ryan." Reed's voice was full of authority, but he spoke with such warmth that it amazed me. I looked up at him. "Ryan Wilhelm Moe.""Hi Ryan! Did you like the food?!" Alex burst with a laugh. I could see Angus roll his eyes at her, seemingly not that amused by me. I nodded shyly.
"Ryan," I turned to Reed. "This is our pack, your... wolf family."
"H-hi," I stuttered and cringed at myself. Pull yourself together!
"Hi om," Reed cleared his throat and a man who looked slightly older than Reed looked between us. And I recognised him immediately. "Oh, um; right! Hi Ryan, so nice to meet you!"
He bowed deeply, and I frowned at it. But then I realized how it must be a wolf thing to be this polite. Reed was just the same. However, this man had chocolate-coloured skin and short hair.
"My name is Otto, and this is my wife, Meg." He smiled at the woman next to him. A woman with long and black hair in braids. "I'm one of the betas. I usually lead the hunt when neither Reed, nor Angus do."
"Okay."
"I just want to tell you how proud I am to have the honour of protecting you." He bowed again. Somehow it made me blush, heavily. "I will see it as one of my top priorities to make you feel safe."
