We landed on an unmapped island at three in the morning. But by the time the door opened to let us out four men were already waiting for us. I stepped out first despite the protests behind me. The men weren't human, they were something I'd never encountered before. Something new and interesting. By the looks on their faces a Succubus was the last thing they thought would be in the jet. "Your arrival is most surprising." One of the men steps close to me, his knuckles brushing across my hand. I feel the push of his influence, he's poking at my mind. I pull away with a hiss.
"Try that again... I dare you." I smile cruelly and his eyes widen in shock. The man looks Italian, with olive skin, thick dark brown hair, blue eyes, and rugged features. "My apologies I had no idea you were so powerful." I snorted at him. Violet grasped my hand tightly.
"They're Incubi, your male counterparts. I've heard they can use their powers on young Succubi, be careful here." She whispered into my ear. I nodded slightly before taking a bold step forward. Violet detached from me and stepped closer to Gage. "I'm new, not dumb. Take us inside please." I gazed at the four Incubi in a bored way.
"Such lovely flames. I wonder how hot they burn under touch." The Incubus that spoke looked like snow. His hair was nearly white and he was pale, but his eyes glowed silver and he was built like a warrior. He also happened to be missing his shirt. I flicked out a bit of power to trail across his chest in a teasing manner. A pleasant smile tugged up his mouth and his eyes flashed a dark grey. Oops. Maybe here was not a safe place to use my power on people. "Ren leave the child alone." The Italian Incubus chided.
"Fine, I'll take them to their rooms." Ren responded, shooting me a heated look. I mentally kicked myself. I was playing with creatures I knew nothing about! Ren approached me and placed his hand on my lower back. Leading me down a trail through the trees. Hunter growled and Colton hissed, but the Incubus only laughed and pressed me closer. Warmth seeped into my skin from his hand and I began to feel buzzed, tipsy even. Time passed as though I were not a part of it and very soon it was just the Incubus and myself alone on the path. Each of us had our own little vacation hut that was more like a large cottage. Room apparently meant house in this place. And apparently teasing meant more than I knew. The Incubus pulled my close and I was so juiced up and power high that I let him. My mind was a cloudy haze of contentment. "Hi." I murmured sleepily, blinking up into his strangely bright eyes.
"You're very beautiful." Ren's eyes roamed over my face, observing every detail. I laughed softly in his face. "Shhhh." I whispered before standing on my tiptoes and kissing the Incubus. Power zapped between us, feeding me and sending shivers up my spine. I was on fire. My insides nothing but an electric mess, tangling together in a snarl of charges. My fingers slipped into his pale hair and I pressed myself even closer to him. Craving the power and energy. Desire tore through my abdomen, ripping me open like a plastic bag. My tongue wrestled for dominance and two large hands cupped my bottom. I sucked in a heated gasp when he nipped my bottom lip, sending shockwaves through my body.
I nearly cried out when Ren pulled away from me. His eyes were molten silver and they burned straight through me. "I think that's enough for now, I'm charged enough for the next two weeks at least." He said, flashing me a grin.
"What was that?" I panted out, fighting to calm my body down.
"That was a mutual energy feed. That's why our species is so compatible, we can feed from each other and no one gets hurt. Now I'm sure you understand why we stick to our own kind." His words were pointed and directed at my friends.
"I think I need to sleep." I responded in a short tone.
"Follow me." Ren said before leading me to another cottage. He opened the door for me, then left. I locked the door and the six windows. I took a shower and slipped into bed. Shoving all thoughts of Ren, the mutual feed, and the drunk buzz I felt. My eyes fluttered close but my body remained restless and twitched. I was mentally exhausted but physically my batteries were juiced up. I wanted to explore but avoiding trouble seemed impossible. so I settled for climbing out of bed and digging around the cottage. When that proved to be useless and boring I called my mother. Deciding that after all the stress of the week needed to be soothed. Although human she was still my mom, the woman who raised me, fed me, and loved me. The time difference was wonky but I estimated it was around lunch time for her.
"Hello?" The sound of her voice had the tension seeping out of my body. A tug at my heart reminded me of just how much I missed her. But I couldn't risk someone like Sam using that bond against me and hurting her.
"Mommy?" I spoke into the phone uncertainty echoing in my voice. I was scared, terrified actually. What if I couldn't fix things? What if by trying to change everything I made things worse? What if I was killed for even trying? I already won a competition over myself, my powers and my body. What if the next competition took my life? Or shredded the remains of my sanity?
"Aspen, where have you been?! I haven't heard from you in a week! I don't care that you're some Queen now, you are my baby girl first and foremost!" My mom lectured but her voice held only concern for me. Tears unexpectedly filled my eyes as homesickness ripped apart my chest. Letting my blood drip to the floor and leaving my throat as cry as a desert "I'm sorry, things got complicated and I never had time to call. I'm on one of those Succubus Sanctuary island things and I think I'm in trouble. I doubt they'll let me leave, the Incubi here are watching me like dinner. I'm meeting the Succubus in charge tomorrow but my friends aren't welcome here. An Incubus fed from me and made it clear that I should stick with my own kind. I'm worried they might try something and soon." I spoke quickly and quietly, while using my power to scan for anybody close to the cottage. I sense more than four Incubi in the surrounding area, either guarding me or preventing my escape.
"You need to leave there, now Aspen. It's not safe for any of you there. Your biological mother would have left you with your own kind if they were trustworthy. None of them have a shred of humanity and will exploit your powers and you. The Incubi could thrive off of your power for centuries while your fellow Succubi will kill you for it. I'm sorry to break it to you but you're the only sane Succubus alive. The rest are cold-hearted, power hungry, murderous bitches. Get out now or you won't make it through the night." I'd never heard my mother sound so serious and worried. Let alone speak so freely of my kind. Before I could respond the call dropped, all signals dead. I threw out my power like a fish-finder, locating even more Incubi and now Succubi around me.
"Oh shit." I groaned feeling pressure build inside my head, almost as though someone were trying to hijack my mind. Only that's exactly what was happening. My heart stopped as the front door unlocked and opened, revealing Ren. "Sweet dreams, babe." Ren said, but it was so quiet and so far away. My vision faded until I felt my legs give out. I collapsed onto the wooden floor. My mind at the mercy of a pale and attractive Incubus. I could feel him twisting my dream to follow his plot. I struggled to fight back only to find myself thrown back inside of my mind.
I was still on the island but I was unable to recognize anything around me. No lights peeked out through the foliage and the moon was dim. My eyes strained to see three feet in front of my face. I turned around in circles hoping to find a way out if this dream. Light chuckling made me look up. The Incubus had decided to join me in this dream, but he was the one controlling everything. As Ren approached I backed up, keeping the same amount of distance between us. His powers could effect mine and I knew the dangers. After all one touch had made me drunk and one kiss had allowed him enough power over me to control my mind. The Incubus vanished from in front of me. But I could still sense him around. I stepped back again and felt his warm chest brush against my spine. A shiver of unknown origins ran down my neck on spindly legs. "Does everything have to be so damn impossible all the time? For once can I not be the target!" I hissed out while scanning the area for the Incubus.
I wasn't in control here or in the waking world. I was completely aware that this dream was under Ren's influence and that my unconscious body was being moved to an unknown location. I just wasn't capable of doing anything about either situation. But since they obviously wanted to play games, I'd play and I'd win. So I needed to find the Incubus that trapped me and I needed to break him. Only problem was that he was much older and therefore more experienced. He'd been around Succubi for probably centuries whereas I was only a teenager just tuning into her powers. If anything he'd overestimate my abilities, it didn't matter how powerful I supposedly was when I had no clue how to use my full power. But maybe I'd get lucky once again and get the hell away from my own kind.
I closed my eyes, cutting off everything else. My focus was on one thing. Feeling that familiar energy, sensing the power. As though I were a radar system a single light popped up in the dark behind my eyelids. It was time to end this dream. I needed to face an Incubus on his playing field. With determination and slight terror I followed the light and began to track Ren down.
He was sitting on the porch of a hut, calmly watching me approach. His eyes held slight surprise and approval, as though he didn't think I'd come after him. Ren stood up when my foot stepped onto the worn wooden porch. "You're very difficult to control even asleep, did you know that?" He said before reaching out to touch my cheek. His hand was warm and soft, it held a deceptive feeling of safety. "Apparently you are handling my difficulty without much strain." I responded, turning my face away from his hand.
My heart stuttered as everything around me began to change. The sun appeared in the sky only to be setting. The trees shivered out of existence and walls popped up around me. The sun was now barely visible through a window and my bare feet sank into plush carpet. To my utter horror my clothes were gone, then replaced with a light blue nightgown that was lacy and unreasonably thin. The wallpaper was peach colored with a rose pattern. And there was a fireplace on one of the walls. My brain was screaming that this shouldn't be possible and yet what I was happened to be impossible also. "Scenery change wasn't necessary, Ren." I glanced up at him when my stomach settled and my brain hushed.
"I assumed you'd prefer something more private than outside on a porch." Ren explained, stepping close enough for me to feel his body heat. I tried to step backwards and found myself bumping into something. "Private? What for?" I asked, head tilted back so that I could keep eye contact. Ren's hands grabbed onto my biceps and pushed. My back hit a soft mattress and the air wooshed out of my lungs. And suddenly I knew how to win. Ren was an Incubus and I was a Succubus, we had the same abilities. I could change the dream. I could escape it. The Incubus ran his hand up my thighs slowly. With a smirk that went unnoticed I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer. "Gotcha." I whispered against his mouth, savoring the look of disbelief that burned in his eyes. A surge of power jolted through me, jerking my brain from the dream and catapulting me into my own body. I bolted up to find myself on a large bed. As expected the door was locked and there was no light switch. A small hole was on my arm, the specific location the same place where blood is drawn.
"You know, you almost broke through. Luckily you don't know how to sense layers. If you couldn't tell, you're still asleep. I'm very good at what I do." Ren popped up on the bed, lounging like a cat. Note to self: Incubi are perverts. Dirty dreams that leave you drained of all energy and drive, that's the way they feed. And occasionally those dreams are actually real and a human ends up pregnant with another Incubus. I was not about to let some Incubus have his way with me just because he was controlling the dream. "Yeah well, I hope you have great stamina because you're gonna have to catch up." I quipped before surging my power and dream hopping. He'd have to be extremely powerful to keep adding dream layers. But eventually I would break through, it was just a matter of when. And when was happening very soon.
