Expect the Unexpected (Jemily)

Chapter 10

Emily's POV

It's been a week since Lily went with Mary and Lea reached out to let us know she was doing okay,

JJs kind of shut off everyone, even me,

She doesn't like to mention lily at all so we don't, she's also been very irritable and snapping while we are at work

We all know this is her way of grieving, she did the same thing when her dad died a few years back,

Lily may still be alive but it hurt us both to just have her torn away from our family, especially seeing the heartbroken look on her face when she had to leave

Plus, JJ is working and not shutting herself away in our room so I will take that as a plus

With me it's different, I feel the same way JJ does but I was always taught to bottle my emotions up and even now I still do it, so I keep all of my hurt about Lily inside and do my best to be there for whatever JJ needs

"Em!? We need to go" JJ Calls for me from the living room and I sigh. We had to travel today for work and I was dreading it, we weren't taking the jet but it's about a two hour car ride

It's also the first time we're traveling for work together in a long time since only one of us went at a time when we had Lily

"Emily?" JJ calls again and I walk out to her

"Sorry love, I'm ready" I say and she nods,

We both grabbed our bags and headed out to the black suv, it's just one of the FBI's but it's better since I don't have to drive my own

We also had to stop and pick up Spencer on the way too

I got into the drivers seat while JJ took her place in the passenger side and held her hand out for me

I happily accepted her Hand and started the drive to pick up Reid

We just arrived in Charlottesville Virginia and are all meeting up at the local precinct before heading to our hotel

The three of us walked in together and everyone but Derek Penelope were already inside,

"Detective these are our agents Jareau and Prentiss. And of course Dr.Reid" Hotch says, introducing us to the detective

"Great we'll I have an area in there you can set up in" he says, motioning toward a conference room

We thanked him and headed to the conference room to do a quick briefing

The case is a serial killer that is killing students that attend The University of Virginia. That's the only connection we are able to find between them

"JJ, I want you and Spencer to talk with the families and Emily, you and Derek go to the campus and talk to friends. Dave and I will stay here and communicate with the officers for the time being" he explains just as Derek and Garcia walk in

"Traffic" Derek says and Hotch sighs

"Let's go, you're with me" I tell Derek and he just follows me out, we took the car he drove since JJ took the one we drove down here

"How you doing?" Derek ask o de we were on the road

"I'm fine Derek, really" I say and he nods

"You know you can talk to me" he says and i smile

"Thanks, and um, don't mention anything about Lily around Jayje please." I say and he nods

"You got it" he says and we drive in silence the rest of the way to the university

We talked to all three victims friends and again the only thing that would connect them is that all three girls liked to stay in and study rather than go out

When we got back to the precinct, JJ was in the room with one of the families while Reid was at a board they sat up

"How did it go?" Hotch ask us

"Still no obvious connection; they didn't even know each other" Derek says

"They were all kids who would rather study right? Are we sure there is no study group they could have been part of?" Dave ask

"None that I could find, " Penelope tells us all

"And none that the friends were aware of" I say and JJ comes out of the room with the family and over to us

"I might have something, each family said the girls had spoken about a new friend, only one had a name. Kacey, they were all convinced it was a girl but our profile is a male unsub" she tells us

"And Kacey could be a guy, Garcia run a list of names" Hotch says

"Already on it" she replies and I look to JJ who was biting her nails, another habit she has picked up on since Lily

"Jayje" I say softly and walk over to her,

"What?" She ask and I just take her hand for a moment before going back to where I was

She watched as I walked away and turned her attention back to the team who didn't even notice our exchange

Penelope was able to gather a list and we narrowed it down to three potential suspects

Hotch split us up again so we could talk to them at the same time

Once again it was just Derek and I, not that I mind though. He's kind of like a brother to me

"Are you guys going to keep fostering?" He ask once we were away from the rest of the group and in the comforts of our own car

"I don't know, JJ doesn't want to anymore but I would like to, even if we take a break for now" I tell him and he nods and drops the subject

I mean In The end if we decide that we don't want to foster any more at all, it'll be okay. But it is something I would like to continue doing

Most of our placements come to us terrified of being put in another random house and we always give them time to their self but by the time they leave, they're at least smiling and talking to us much more

We have only had 3 placements that were older than 14 and were with us for a week. However. All three of them have our phone numbers and know it's okay to text us whenever.

One of them will text us random updates on her and thanks us.

I really like being able to know how she is doing back with her birth parents and for now at least it seems everything is good

Unexpectedly we were able to catch the unsub and finish this case before midnight, while it was unexpected we were all pretty glad it was quick and we get to head home in the morning

JJ and I are now in our hotel room getting ready for bed, we had both showered while not washing our hair so it didn't take long

I put on my night clothes and JJ did the same, a simple long t-shirt with panties and she climbed into bed with me and laid her head on my chest

We both made the rule a long time ago that we would only ever be professional while on a case, it was really important to us

With her head on my chest I ran my hand up and down her back while we laid under the covers

I miss lily. I do, and I probably always will. But I miss being with JJ

We have had lily for almost a year, that means every case we traded off and didn't see each other all the time like we used to

It was just nice being able to hold her in my arms
