Expect the Unexpected (Jemily)

Chapter 36

Emily's POV

We are just about to leave the hospital with Lily now. She's been very quiet and hasn't even really looked at me or JJ. She will speak only when spoken to and when she does it's a whisper. We're just thinking she's still trying to understand and comprehend everything that just happened with her mom.

Dani has also been extremely quiet. I hate that she is probably going to regress even more now with all of this change. Especially with Lily needing a little more of our attention

"She is good to go" Lea says after walking into Lilys hospital room. She handed me a few papers and I folded them and placed them in my bag

"Are you ready to head out sweet girl?" JJ ask Lily and she nods

"I will be in touch and will be by sometime this week" Lea tells us

"Okay, we'll get everything set up for her tomorrow and the day after" I say. We currently don't have a room for Lily. Or a bed. This was all short notice but Lea is giving us this leeway. Even if she did have a room tonight we doubt that she would stay in it.

Lea gave us the car seat that she had for Lily and after strapping that into place we were good. Lily did not want to be strapped into it though. She didn't really fight or whine but her face was scrunched up in disgust and her arms were crossed

"I'm sorry sweet girl, you need the car seat" I at and she just frowns at me

"My mommy didn't make me sit in this!" She she exclaims, taking us all back with her outburst

"Well, it is not safe for you to not sit in it" I say and shut the car door and get into the driver seat. Dani got in and leaned against the door without looking at any of us.

As soon as we started the drive home JJ laid her hand on my leg and I laid my hand right on top of hers.

Once we got back to the apartment JJ helped Lily out of her car seat and carried her inside while I stayed behind and walked with Danielle

"Talk to me love, what's going on inside your head?" I ask her and she shrugs

"Nothing" she mumbles

"Danielle" I say and grab her hand to stop her from moving

"What?" She ask quietly

I could tell by the sound of her voice she was on the edge of crying

Instead of replying back to her I wrapped my arms around her and held her close to me

"I love you, I know this is a lot and it's going to be a big adjustment, but don't think this means we want you here any less. We still want to adopt you if you'll allow us" I assure her and kiss the top of her head.

I wanted her to be the first one to move so I waited until she was ready to pull apart

"Are you ready to head inside?" I ask after she pulled away from me and she nods

When we got inside, Lily was sitting at the kitchen table while JJ was getting her a drink

"I'm going to lay down" Danielle says and walks back the hallway

"She okay?" JJ ask me and I sigh

"She will be," I say and JJ nods and the two of us sit at the table with Lily

I think we were both very much at a lost because this all just happened so fast.

"Are you hungry?" JJ asked lily and she just shakes her head

"Okay....do you want to take a bath and get in bed? We can watch a movie" JJ suggest, it wasn't late, but after the day she had she could use a good nights sleep

I had to get a Walmart delivery while we were waiting on lily to be discharged because we no longer had anything here for her, so she got a whole new wardrobe

"No bath" lily says quietly and JJ looks over at me and I shrug

We have no clue when the last time she bathed was, but we also don't want a mental breakdown tonight over it

"Okay, we don't need a bath tonight but we will get one tomorrow. Do you want to pick out a new pair of pajamas to wear?" JJ ask and lily just shakes her head in response

I put my hand on JJs shoulder and went to the Walmart bags still by the door. After picking out a random set I took it back to JJ

"I'm going to go check on Dani" I tell her and she nods

I feel like it's going to be really important to make sure she doesn't feel any type of way because of this. It took a lot of effort to get where we are and I'm worried this is going to cause us to have a major set back

I knocked on her door and waited for her response, when I got nothing I opened the door slightly

"Dani? Are you okay?" I ask and walk into her room

She was under the covers on her bed, completely covered up but I could hear her sniffing under them

"Dani" I said softly and sat down on her bed and pulled the covers off her, my heart broke to see the tear streaks on her cheek and how puffy and red her eye were

"Go away" she says quietly and tries to cover herself backup. Though I know she doesn't mean that. She's testing me to see if I will leave her.

"I'm not going away" I tell her

"Yes! Go away" she says a little bit more loudly and starts to cry even more

"Danielle" I say a little firmly, just enough to get her attention and she slowly moves the blanket just low enough so I could see her face

"Come here sweet girl" I say and she waste no time in cuddling against my chest. This is definitely more little Danielle than it is teenager her.

"Talk to me love" I say softly and she shakes her head against me once again

"Okay, okay" I say and run my fingers through her hair

"I know this is a lot, and is happening so fast, but you don't need to worry about anything. We love you. And nothing will change that" I say and she doesn't answer me. But that's okay, I didn't need an answer. Her relaxing against me is all that I needed from her

JJ's. POV

"Are you ready little love?" I ask Lily after Emily had walked away. She tracked Emily as she walked out of her view and then looked back at her fingers

All I got was a nod but then she was getting herself out of the chair and following me back to mine and Emily's room

"Can I help you get changed? Or can you do it yourself" I ask her, normally I would just do it. But there is nothing normal about this situation

"Me do it" she whispers and I nod and walk her to the bathroom

"Can you go potty for me to please? And if you need any help just yell" I tell her and she nods and walks into the bathroom

She kept the bathroom door open but I still sat on the bed while I waited  to her to finish

She came back a couple minutes later with her shorts on but carried her shirt over to me

"Help" she says and hands me her pajama top, I just smiled and gently took it from her, easily slipping it over her head before lifting her into the bed, not ignoring how rigid she got when I lifted her

"You're are here little one, you have always been safe with JJ and Emmy. We love you" assure her as she climbs under the blanket
