Chapter 28

Emily's POV

It's been 2 weeks since we sat down with lea. She still hasn't gotten back with us so we're going to ask Penelope for help today. We know that it's not exactly right for her to go looking Into this but we also know that lea can only do so much

In the past two weeks Danielle had barely left my side, she's even been getting upset with JJ having to leave for work. Our original plan was for us to switch like we always had but we both knew that Danielle would not be the least bit comfortable if I left

JJ and the team got back yesterday from being gone, Penelope is going to meet us at the office at 1 so that means trying to get Danielle to cooperate long enough for that to happen

The three of us just finished lunch and JJ went to get ready since she was still in her pajamas while I had Danielle help me clean up from breakfast

"Emily" she whispers and I look over to her to see her looking at the ground

"What's wrong sweetheart?" I ask and put the last dish away

"I don't want to go to your work" she whines and I sigh

"Danielle... we've talked about this, you don't even have to leave JJs office" I explain and she frowns and crosses her arms

"Would you rather stay here?" I ask, JJ and I trust her a lot more than we did in the beginning and we did let her stay home when we went out for dinner so I'm not too worried about that anymore

"No, I want to go with you" she says and comes over to me and wraps her arms around my waist

"Come on, we have about 15 minutes until JJ is ready to go" I say and move us to the couch, I sat down first and no later than I did Danielle immediately sat almost on top of me

"I don't want you guys looking more into stuff" she mumbles against me, her face was pressed completely against me and she was gripping the bottom of my shirt

"Why not?" I ask her, I know she's uncomfortable talking about it but JJ and I both think it's important we figure out what happened as soon as possible

"Because! I wasn't supposed to tell people" she exclaims loudly while getting more upset

"Danielle I know-" I began and she quickly cut me off

"No you don't! I don't want to know anything, and I don't want to talk about it!" She yells at me

"Hey! You can be upset, but you are not to talk to me like that" I say firmly and she just buried her face into the couch and began to cry and JJ quickly made her way out to us

"What's going on? I leave you two alone for 10 minutes and this is what's happening?" JJ ask with her hands on her hips and I sigh

"She doesn't want to go into the office and doesn't want us looking into things. She yelled at me and I told her that it was not okay" I explain and pat Danielle's back before standing up and JJ went and crouched down next to her

"Danielle would it make you feel better if we don't discuss it with you anymore?" She ask while rubbing her hand soothingly over Danielle's back

"No more questions?" Dani ask and JJ nods

"No more questions unless necessary" she clarifies and Danielle nods and looks to me with tears in her eyes before Holding her arms out

I walked over to her and sat back down and she grabbed onto the material of my shirt again

"I'm sorry please don't send me away" she says quickly and quietly, I almost didn't hear her

"Dani.... We're not sending you away. You're a teenager, teenagers get attitudes, it's going to happen and JJ and I will be here to correct behavior if we have to but, no matter what you're not going anywhere" I assure her and press a kiss to her head

"Are you okay now?" I ask Danielle and she nods and gets up, she wiped her eyes one last time before following JJ

"We'll be in the car" JJ tells me and and I nod as her and Danielle walked out,

I freshened up quickly and met my girls in the car

When we got to the office Danielle refused to let go of my hand the entire way up to the bullpen and into JJs office

"Okay... will you be okay?" I ask Danielle when she still refused to let go of my hand

"You'll be back?" She ask me and I nod

"Yes, we're just going to go talk to Penelope and we will be back then we can go home" I tell her and she nods and sits on the couch in JJ office

"We'll be quick" JJ says and puts her hand on Danielle's hand before walking over to me

We left Danielle alone in her office and went straight to Penelope's lair. The rest of the team weren't in today so it was just us here

We knocked on the door once before entering

"Hi! There you are!" She smiles at us and motions for us to sit on the lounge behind her

"Are you guys sure you want me to do this? It might bring up relatives of Danielle..... and with what happened with Lilly I want you guys to be sure" she tells us and JJ and I both look to each other

We talked about it but finding out if Danielle had a baby is more important to us

"We're sure, we really need to know if it's true" JJ says and Penelope nods and goes to her computer and starts typing

"You guys think she was telling the truth?" She ask us without looking in our direction

"Yea... I think so" I say and JJ nods in agreement

"Alright; there was only 1 baby born to a 12 year old around the time Danielle gave you. Now the birth certificate blocks out the mothers name and there is no father listed" Penelope tells us

"So she was telling the truth" I sigh

Now what are we supposed to do

"Danielle said that she wasn't even allowed to see the baby, so they must have just made her sign things" JJ says and I nod

"Any idea where she is?" I ask and she types more on her computer

"Seems like she was put into foster care as a safe surrender after she wasn't placed for adoption, she's currently with a family about half an hour away" she tells us

"Any idea why she didn't get adopted?" I ask

"Oh.. it seems like she has some health problems, she was diagnosed with both epilepsy and asthma.." Penelope says and we sigh, the poor baby

"What do we do?" JJ ask me and I shrug, I really really don't know

"Did you find anything about Danielle's birth family?" I ask her and she shakes her head,

"it was just mom and dad and they're both gone" she explains and I nod and look to JJ

"We have to call lea"
