Expect the Unexpected (Jemily)

Chapter 29

Emily's POV

"Any idea why she didn't get adopted?" I ask

"Oh.. it seems like she has some health problems, she was diagnosed with both epilepsy and asthma.." Penelope says and we sigh, the poor baby

"What do we do?" JJ ask me and I shrug, I really really don't know

"Did you find anything about Danielle's birth family?" I ask her and she shakes her head,

"it was just mom and dad and they're both gone" she explains and I nod and look to JJ

"We have to call lea"  I say

Lea is coming over now and she is going to look and see if she can find out more information about Danielle's baby.

We know some of the facts but not nearly enough as we need

Danielle still didn't know that we found out about her placement so she just thinks that it's a routine visit from Lea

It feels wrong keeping this from Danielle but we both know that she would be so upset with us and we need her to feel like she has someone on her side

She is currently back in her room on her phone and JJ is just finishing up in the shower

Just as JJ came out to me Lea knocked on the door and I let JJ answer it while I went to talk to Danielle

I knocked on her door and walked in when I was given the okay

"Hey.... Is lea here?" She ask me and I nod

"She is, I just wanted to let you know. JJ and I will talk to her then we'll come talk to you" I assure her and she nods

"Okay" she tells me and I leave her alone on her bed and I met JJ and Lea in the kitchen

"Hey," Lea smiles and I sat down next to JJ

"Hey... any luck?" I ask and she nods

"A little, I have just found her family she's living with. And I'm reading through their profile quick" she tells me and JJ reaches for my hand

"So... this family have been fostering for nearly 5 years. They have had her since she was a year old, so they have had her for 7 months. It looks like they have no interest in adopting  as they have specifically said that. They have their own 3 and 7 year old" Lea says and we look to each other

"What do we tell Danielle?" JJ ask and I sigh

"The truth, and if you guys want I can try and set up a meeting to meet her" Lea says and I nod

"Let us talk to her and we'll text you to when we figure out what Danielle wants to do" I say and she nods

"I'm going to go say hi to her before I head out" she tells us and walks back the hall

"What are you thinking?" I ask JJ and she shrugs

"That this is not what I had in mind when you agreed to start fostering Danielle" she chuckles

"But, I don't know what to  do about this situation." She says and I nod

"We'll talk to her when Lea leaves and we will figure out what to do next" she tells me and I nod

Lea came out a few seconds later and thanked us before leaving

"I'm going to get her to come to our room so we can talk" I tell JJ and kiss her lips before walking back the hall to Danielle's room. Her door was already open so I just walked in

"Hey... JJ and I want to talk to you, why don't you come to our room?" I suggest and she nods hesitantly

"Talk about what?" She ask and got up to follow me

"About why Lea was here today" I say and she immediately climbs into our bed with JJ and I follow

"So.... Lea was here today because we found out where your baby is..." I say softly and she looks away from me

"Why?" She ask quietly

"We'll.... We wanted you to have the option to ask questions, and to know about her" JJ answers

"Is she in foster care?" She ask us

"Yes... she's with a family right now" I say and she nods

"What's her name?" She ask while picking at her fingers

"Her name is Alana" I say and she smiles

"That's pretty" she smiles and I nod

"It is" I say

"Would you like to meet her?" JJ ask and Danielle shrugs

"I don't know... she doesn't know me" Danielle whispers

"You're right... but if you wanted to meet her we could talk to Lea about setting it up" I assure her

"Can we do that?" She ask me and I nod

"We can, would you like me to tell lea that you're interested in meeting with her?" I ask and she nods

"Yes please" she says and I nod and take my phone out to message lea

"Okay... now we just wait" I say and she leans into me and pulls her blanket she brought in with her up to her face

I didn't say anything to her but I held her close to me and JJ turned the tv on to get us out of silence

She fell asleep a few minutes later and JJ reached her hand out to me

I know we were both worried about what's to come. We're obviously not going to prevent Danielle from seeing Alana. I hope their initial meeting goes okay too

After that first meeting it's going to be hard to be consistent, especially if the two of them become attached to one another

And what is Alana going to be told? she is almost two years old and two year olds understand a lot more than we think

"Hey.... It's going to be okay" JJ whispers and I nod

"I know, I'm just worried about how she is going to take it. She still doesn't regulate her emotions very well. Im worried that either she'll get attached quickly or that it's not going to go the way she wants it to and it'll back fire anyway" I say and JJ sits up and looks to me

"I think she'll be okay, and if it sets her back a little bit then so be it and we'll just work through it. " JJ says and I nod

"Yea... you're right...." I sigh and carefully roll Danielle off of me and sit up

"I'm also worried she is going to want us to stop fostering her soon..... I wish she was open to adoption. It's something I would have wanted to speak with you about" I say and she sighs

"Em," she sighs and I continue

"I know, you don't want to adopt... I was just thinking" I say and she smiles

"'Em, let me finish" she chuckles

"I think Danielle has improved so so much since being here with us... and I think it's because of you, Emily if she's willing to think about getting adopted then I'm willing to sit down and talk about it with you" she tells me and I smile

"Really?" I ask and she nods

"Yes Emily, really"
