Expect the Unexpected (Jemily)

Chapter 31

Emily's POV

Shannon is bringing Alanna over today for lunch and to spend the day with Danielle

She was a little upset after having to leave Alanna yesterday but I also know JJ was a little worried about jumping into this right away

I think Danielle's going to be okay though, maybe she hasn't processed that she is her mother but either way we need to talk to her about that

Lea said it would be a good idea to tell Danielle not to say anything to Alanna, while she's not even 2, she still understands a lot more than we think. We do not need a confused two year old at this point in everything. It is better at this point for them to just be friends

The three of us just ate breakfast and I am cleaning up from that while JJ is getting dressed and Danielle is picking up her room, she has a problem with throwing clothes and whatever else all over the floor

I finished the dishes and walked back to Danielle's room; her door was shut as usual so I knocked and waited for her okay to walk in

"What?" She exclaims and I open the door to see her sitting on her bed on her phone while her floor was still an absolute mess

"Dani, I asked you to clean this up" I tell her and she shrugs

"I can do it later, I'm playing a game" she tells me

"No, you need to do it now. Play your game after. Alanna will be here later" I tell her firmly and she just glares at me

"Danielle I'm not going to ask again, if I have to call Lea and Shannon to tell them to cancel the visit I will." I say and she groans and gets up

"You're being mean" she tells me and I chuckle

"I asked you to pick it up a while ago, get it done" I tell her and leave her room to walk back to mine

When I walked in Jayje was just buttoning her top  while her hair was wrapped up in a yellow towel and I sit on the edge of the bed, she walks close to me and stands between my legs and I put my hands on her hips

"I have to finish getting dressed" she tells me softly, I looked down the length of her body and smiled

"Do you?" I ask and she laughs

"Yes Emily I do, we have a very awake teenager across the hall" JJ says with a smirk and buttons the last button on her shirt  before walking over to her dresser and pulling out a pair of jeans

"You're still okay with me going back to work Monday?" I ask JJ, since we have started to foster Danielle I haven't really been out with the team. We both know she is more comfortable with me for some reason so I have been staying with her

"Yes, we will be fine." She says and buttons her jeans before walking back over to me and sitting on the bed

"I know, I just, I worry. Not that I don't she will be fine, it's the aftermath of her meeting Alanna this weekend is what I'm worried about" I tell her honestly and she grabs my hand

"I know, I understand. But it's nothing I can't handle, and if it is, I'll call you and lea. No need to worry so much" she says and kisses my head softly before standing up and I stand up with her

"I'm going to go make sure she is doing what I told her to do" I tell JJ and she nods and goes into our conjoining bathroom while I walk out of our room and down to Danielle's

As soon as I reached her room I could tell she still didn't do as I asked and continued to watch whatever it was on her phone

"Danielle." I say firmly and she looks to me

"I don't want to put the clothes away right now!" She snaps and goes back to her phone

As foster parents we are not allowed to take items that have been given to the kids by their parents, including cellphones

Now we know that Danielle's parents are no longer in the picture and that Lea is actually the one who pays and got Danielle the phone so I'm not sure where the rule stands on this issue

Not that I am worried that Lea would be upset though

"Danielle. I'm going to take your phone and give it to Lea if you don't clean this up in the next 10 minutes" I say and she glares at me once more before putting her phone down and starting to clean

"Thank you" I tell her and head out to the kitchen

As soon as I poured a cup of coffee someone knocked on the door

I knew it was Lea so I just yelled for her to come in and she showed up next to me a few seconds later

"Hey, want coffee?" I ask and she holds up her own thermos

"I'm good" she chuckles

"Where's she at?" Lea ask me and I sigh

"Oh no, that bad?" She ask and JJ comes into the kitchen with us and says a quick hello to Lea

"Not bad, she just has been acting like a teenager I suppose" I say and just as a do Danielle comes and wraps her arms around Lea

"Hey sweet girl, what have you been doing today?" Lea ask and Danielle shrugs

"I want to go with you" she says and I sigh

"Why's that, what happened?" Lea ask her

"She was being mean! She said she was going to take my phone" Danielle whines and Lea offers me a soft smile

"What were you doing that made her say that?" Lea ask and Danielle doesn't answer

"Dani listen to me, I love you okay? You and I both know this is the best place for you and you are only upset because you got in trouble. Emily and JJ both have permission to take the phone if they see fit do you understand?" Lea says and Danielle whines once more but doesn't move from her spot

"Did you finish your room?" I ask Danielle and she shakes her head

"Go, Alanna will be here soon and you want to have it done before hand" lea says and Danielle sulks but listens

"You know she is just upset you got after her," lea assures me and I nod

"I know"

JJs POV

Shannon and Alanna got here about half an hour ago and Alanna has been stuck to Danielle's side since

It's crazy to me that they have bonded and connected so quickly, I wonder if somehow Alanna knows that Danielle is her mother

I know that I wasn't completely on board with this decision but I love seeing them interact together so it may just be worth it

Danielle and Alanna are currently at the table coloring while Emily, Shannon, Lea and I are talking

"She asked about Danielle all day when she got up from her nap" Shannon smiles

"I hope the relationship between the two of them continues to blossom" lea says

"Me too, however, I think it is important that we don't put any parental responsibilities on Danielle. She may be the mother but mentally she's not ready for that" I say and Emily smiles and takes my hand

"I agree, it is way too much responsibility to put on her" Lea says

Before anyone else could respond Danielle came out to us while holding Alanna

"Can she stay here with us?" Danielle ask and we all sigh

"Sweetheart, Alanna lives with Shannon and Tristen" Emily says

"Yea but why can't she live here?" She ask and we look to Lea.

Emily and I are capable of taking in Alanna but it's not something we have spoken about and quite frankly I don't think it's a good idea at the moment

"I am sorry Dani, it's not something that can happen right now"
