"Stiles put your hand down."
The said brunette's face fell, his hand dropping down in disbelief on his lap as he gaped back at the grumpy werewolf facing him.
"Why not me?" Stiles asked, an indignant tone to his voice as he spoke. How dared the wolf exclude him like he was?
"You're human."
"So?" Stiles retorted with an arched brow, an indicator that he was waiting for a damn good argument. "Is that your only argument to everything whenever it comes to me? Because it's getting old, sourwolf."
"Yes, that's my argument and it will always be a valid one." Derek replied with annoyance as he rolled his eyes at the teen. Why did the brunette need to argue with every single decision he made? Couldn't he just accept things as they were and move on? What was so bad about being safe? Derek didn't get it. "There are so many things that could go wrong, Stiles. You can't go."
"Many things could go wrong for anybody who goes instead of me!" he exclaimed in frustration. He was always the one they put aside right away. He was sick of it. It really was unfair to him. Even his dad and Melissa were allowed to do more than he was. How did that even make sense? "Why is it so different when it's me?"
"Because you can't defend yourself for shit, Stiles!" Derek snapped, making the rest of the pack anxious as the grumpy wolf was their alpha and if their alpha was angry then nobody was happy.
"Yes, I can!"
"No, you can't, and if something happens none of us will be there to help you this time."
"You will!" the brunette retorted. "Just not the you from now."
"The me from then doesn't know you." Derek grumbled, sighing. "What makes you think you can even do it? What makes you think you will be able to convince her that you know us?"
"I can be pretty damn convincing when I wanna be."
"You won't be staying for five minutes, Stiles," the wolf argued, folding his bulky arms over his chest. He felt like he truly deserved a medal for putting up with Stiles sometimes. "You won't be able to just say you're from the future, ask for the book and come back. You'll be there for at least a year."
"And that's totally fine!" Stiles exclaimed. "I survived a couple of years with you, Cora and Peter. I can survive a year with the rest of the Hale pack."
"That's not the problem."
"Then what is?" he asked before smirking. "Are you scared young Derek is going to reveal all your dirty little secrets?" he teased but the wolf didn't seem amused.
"Shut up."
"I really don't see the problem here." Stiles said after a while and Derek sighed once more before shaking his head as he paced across the room.
There was nothing more irritating than a stubborn Stiles.
"It's better if I go."
"You can't." the teen replied quickly. "You're the alpha, the pack needs you. You can't just go away like that. Plus, we don't know exactly what year you're going to end up in. I don't think it's good for your mental health." he said, a bit worried.
Stiles had grown to become very protective over the pack, even for Derek and Cora. Peter was still too creepy for him. He spent a lot of time everyday with Deaton learning about ways to help the pack even though he was human so that this excuse would no longer be used against him fighting alongside all of them. He still fought a lot with the Hales but he could at least call them friends-ish now.
