dear malia,
my mum offered to take me home that night but i wanted to stay. there was no way i was leaving josh's side. my mum hesitantly agreed and kissed my forehead goodbye. i told her i would call her with any updates.
"i'll be back in the morning," she told me.
-
no matter how hard i tried, i couldn't fall asleep. josh laid in his hospital bed, unconscious, lifeless, josh-less. it made me so sad to see him this way. i missed josh.
all of a sudden my phone began to ring, startling me. "hello?" i answered.
"hannah," the voice said.
i'd recognized that voice anywhere.
"why are you calling me?"
"i wanted to tell you that--that i'm sorry about your brother. i heard."
"you don't have to--""no, i'm so sorry." your words were slurring together.
"it's fine, seriously," i said. "are you. . . drunk?"
you giggled. "yeah, maybe just a little."
"you should get some sleep."
"wait, hannah?"
i smiled. "yeah?"
it was silent for a moment. but then i heard three words that made my heart flutter.
"i miss you."
and because i didn't know how to reply, i simply said, "i miss you, too, malia."truly,
hannah
