Losing His Trust

The entire car ride I’m preoccupied with thinking of what exactly I’m going to say to Wes. What’s the easiest way to break this to him? Ugh, who am I kidding? There is no easy way to tell him this. I’m so caught up in my thoughts that I don’t even realize I’m stopped at a green light until the car behind me beeps. Come on, Tori, get it together.

A few minutes after that, I pull into the diner’s parking lot and the first car I see is Wesley’s. Words can’t describe how nervous I am right now. I walk through the door and see him in his usual khaki pants, tank and snapback across the room. The moment I sit down his face lights up. I’m not really excited to see him but I pretend that I am. “Hey babe. I missed you.” He says reaching for my hand over the table.

“So, how’s Keaton after last night?” I quickly ask him so I can avoid any more mushy boyfriend-girlfriend talk. I just can’t handle that right now.

“He’s better. He was just way to drunk last night. I shouldn’t have let him drink.” I can’t help but say in my head, ‘No, you shouldn’t have let me drink’ but I know this isn’t his fault…it’s mine and Drew’s. “I just hope he can work something out with Arianna.” I nod in agreement but my thoughts aren’t focused on Keaton anymore. I don’t even realize I’m starting at the ground until Wes asks, “What are you thinking about babe?” I guess now is the best time to let it out.

“Oh, um…I’m just thinking about this weird dream I had last night.” Wes just stares at me waiting for me to elaborate. “It started off with you and I having sex, well at least I thought it was you, but it was really...” I pause not knowing if I really want to say his name, but I carry on. “…Drew.” I pause again but Wes’s expression doesn’t change. “Then, you walked in on us. You yelled at me and then just disappeared, forever.” I choke up a little when I say the last part because at this point in our relationship, I can’t picture my life without Wes. I look down at the table afraid of what he might say but when I look back up he just has a huge smile on his face. “Why are you smiling?” I ask.

“Because it was just a dream, it’s actually kind of funny. Well the part about you and Drew hooking up, like that would actually happen.” He laughs out loud. Oh, little does he know…

“It’s not that funny though, Wes. You just left and I thought I would never see you again.”

Wes notices how serious I am and then he says, “Tori, I would never just leave you.”

“Even if something like that happened?” I don’t even realize that I say it because it just slips out.

“You cheating on me?” He asks and I just nod. He takes a minute to think about what to say and then proceeds, “Honestly, Tori, I don’t know what I’d do if you ever cheated on me. I love you so much that I know it would hurt like hell and I don’t know if I could ever get over something like that. I know you would never do that though.” He says reaching for my hand once again but I quickly pull it away.

“But…” I start to say but I’m cut off by an obnoxious voice yelling ‘Heeeeeeeey’. No, it can’t be. I turn around to see Drew walking over to us followed by Keaton.

As they make their way over to us, Wes looks back at me and says, “Were you going to say something?” Yes, I was going to say something that may ruin our relationship, no big deal. I just shake my head and smile back at him. Drew takes a seat next to Wes and Keats climbs in next to me.

“Hey guys!” Keaton says. “We didn’t know you guys were going to be here. You should have told us!”

“Yeah.” Drew adds while taking a quick glance at me and then looking away.

“Well, you were asleep and I know you needed your sleep.” Wes says directly to Keaton. “And I had no idea where you were!” He says looking at Drew. “Where were you anyways? Did you even come home last night?” A knot forms in my stomach. I look down and play with my hands. I can feel Drew’s eyes burn through me as he searches for an excuse.
