ONCE TOMOKO AND Kuina reached the room of the mysterious figure, they switched the light on and realised the figure was Ann Rizuna.
"What are you doing?" Tomoko demanded, suspicious of her due to the fact she was rummaging around the room in the complete dark, meaning she didn't want to be seen. She was clearly afraid too, which lead Tomoko to the theory that she was hiding something important.
Going back to her search, Ann said, "Come here and give me a hand." When neither made a move to do so, she raised her eyebrows at them in slight surprise, "You don't trust me?"
"I used to. But it's hard to trust somebody who sneaks around and gives no explanations." Tomoko retorted as she crossed her arms.
Kuina was more direct with her words, "Are you the witch?"
As she moved onto searching a new cupboard, Ann shook her head, "Unfortunately not. And I'm guessing you two aren't either. Anyone trying to find the witch on their own is not one. If you were the witch, you'd be hiding right now or having fun killing people."
"Again, what are you doing?" Kuina asked as she stepped toward her. Tomoko copied her actions, keeping a tight grip on the gun in her pocket.
"Looking for the witch." Ann replied vaguely. She opened a drawer and a smile spread across her face as she snatched up a small tube, "Ah, here it is! Cyanoacrylate glue."
Narrowing her eyes, Tomoko scoffed, "Are you planning on poisoning someone, witch?"
Tomoko did not necessarily believe Ann was the witch. She hoped that she was not. However, Tomoko had her right and reason to be suspicious. She also had Kuina with her and even though the woman seemed to be more trusting than her, Tomoko had subconsciously vowed long ago to do anything to protect her. So, as much as she wanted to work alongside someone as admirable and smart as Ann, she would put her crush's safety above her own.
Ann let out a light chuckle at Tomoko's words, "It's a super glue. If we heat this up and apply it on the murder weapon, all the moisture in the cyanoacrylate will evaporate and hopefully leave fingerprints."
Eyes wide in surprise at the woman's intelligence, Tomoko let out a light scoff of disbelief, "Wow. So you really aren't the witch then?"
As she breezed past her and left the room, Ann smirked, "I told you I'm not." The two women followed her as she explained further, "I'll be able to use cocoa powder to dust for finger prints on the knife handle. After I lift the fingerprints with cellophane tape, I'll be able to identify the witch."
Kuina couldn't help but gasp, "Gosh, what did you do before you came here?"
"Forensics, Tokyo Metro Police."
The ambitious, hopeful atmosphere that had started to form soon dissipated. Whilst Kuina was grinning at the fact that they might clear the game, Ann and Tomoko had halted their movements once they realised who waited before them. It was Last Boss, a violent grin on his face as he unsheathed his katana.
Gaze hardened with determination and bravery, Kuina stepped forward, "You two, keep going. I can deal with this."
"What?" Tomoko's mouth dropped open. She held up her gun, "I'll use this on him. I'm not leaving you to fight him with no weapons!"
"What if you run into militants? You need to save your bullets." Kuina replied insistently. She raised her fists, getting into a perfect martial arts stance, "Besides, I have my own type of weapon."
Tomoko's heart was being pulled apart. One side of her wanted to stay and defend the woman she loved. But the other side of her knew Kuina was right. Last Boss was quick and agile, he'd dodge the bullets well -- and Tomoko might use them all up trying to kill him. And leaving Ann on her own was a bad idea. If she were attacked, she could not help them complete the game.
Anguish ripped through Tomoko. It was unusual to her. She hadn't loved anyone in her life apart from her brother. Now, she was worried for both Ann and Kuina.
Because Kuina had finally showed her how to have a heart.
Trying to swallow the lump in her throat, Tomoko nodded. She tried to blink away the tears welling in her eyes but it instead made them fall onto her cheeks. Her throat was choked with sadness as she said, "Be careful. I need you to survive. I care about you a lot."
Kuina smiled at her. Even though neither had said it, they both knew. They knew they loved each other. "Of course I will. Now, go!"
And with that, Tomoko grabbed hold of Ann's hand tightly and they sprinted away as quick as they could.
