"NOTHING BAD WILL happen." Kuina reassured her girlfriend with a worried frown. It was hard to tell if she believed her own words or not.

"At least not to us." Ann added, "We'll live."

Soon, footsteps could be heard heading down the alleyway. Gravel crunched underfoot, their steps slow and cautious. It was clearly the King of Spades.

Taking a deep breath, Tomoko peered out from behind her cover. As soon as she set her sights on the King, she sent a burst of bullets in his direction. He tried to shoot back but Tomoko had already ducked behind a corner, running farther up the alleyway.

Ann and Kuina followed after her until she ducked into a nearby store. Ann began to shoot at the King, causing him to try and leave the only way he could: the way he had came. However, before he could, Kuina shoved a discarded piece of wood onto the King before kicking him. The wood shattered, sending splinters flying, as the King fell backward.

Then, Kuina began to fight with the King. She attempted to punch him in the gut and elbow him in the teeth, but he caught her arm. Spinning her around, the King pinned Kuina to the wall, hand around her throat.

Alarm ran through Tomoko. She sent a flurry of bullets into the King's leg at the same time as Ann attempted to shoot him in the head. He ducked, simultaneously letting go of Kuina.

"You two almost hit me!" Kuina yelled as she ran away from the King.

"We're making sure he doesn't hit you!" Tomoko returned as the three continued their journey down the alleyway. Aguni had to be around here somewhere – if they just kept running, they'd make it.

The three hid in a stairwell, holding their breath as the King walked past them. They waited until they caught the eyes of Heiya, who was on top of a roof, and she nodded to make their move.

The King was limping so whilst Heiya shot him in the shoulder, Tomoko and Ann got to work on trying to shoot his uninjured knee.

Trying to escape unscathed, the King of Spades ran down the alley and turned the last corner – only to be met with Aguni's bullets.

He dove backward in attempt to dodge them. Usagi, who was also on a roof, tried to crush him with a large, metal fan by tipping it onto the floor. The King managed to roll out of the way. He tried to hide in the stairwell Tomoko was in but she quickly forced him away with bullets piercing his stomach.

Then, Aguni attempted to tackle the King but he managed to dodge out of the way. The two began to grapple for the pistol in his hand; slamming each other into walls and punching each other until blood stained their skin.

When it looked like Aguni was losing, Kuina ran out of her hiding spot and helped him. She delivered a powerful jumping kick to the King's back, forcing him to stumble forwards and straight into Aguni's hands.

Aguni punched the King in the face but his grip on the gun did not loosen. Instead, he turned and tried to shoot Kuina. Luckily, she dodged in time.

She ran back to the stairwell, hiding inside it. Shooting an arrow at the King, Heiya took her place. The King of Spades avoided the arrow so both Ann and Tomoko began to assault him with rapid gunfire.

In return, the King shot back at them, causing them to hide themselves once more. Thankfully for them, the gunfire soon turned into simple clicks as his bullets ran out. With even more fierceness, the King continued to fight Aguni — but this time for the man's own assault rifle.

Anxiety and anger bubbling in her stomach, Tomoko attempted to shoot the King. However, the two men were wrestling so quick and so hard that whenever she thought she could get a clean shot, the two had moved elsewhere. She clutched her gun tighter and forced herself to breathe, relax her muscles and wait for the right opportunity.

   But that opportunity never came.

The King flung Aguni into a wall. He lay there, injured and unable to defend himself. The King closed in, ready to deliver the final bullet that would end his life...

...But Heiya came out of nowhere and began to grapple for his gun — only to be littered with bullets herself.

She fell to the ground, blood staining her clothes and pooling from her mouth.

Tomoko screamed the girl's name, agonised, as if it would help her. She was frozen; unable to move as she watched it happen. It should've been her.

How the hell had this happened? Tomoko was supposed to protect her. She was supposed to be there to make sure she didn't get hurt — and now she was dying.

   "You motherfucker!" Tomoko yelled.

She ran out of cover, not thinking straight. She shot at the King until she was close enough to smash her rifle into the back of his head. Fury blinding her, Tomoko then shot the King in the back of his legs, causing him to fall forward. Then, she tried to finish him off but he beat her to it...sending a bullet through her stomach.

A fiery pain exploded in her abdomen. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself not to cry out in pain. Instead, she managed to dodge out of the way of another incoming bullet.

She had survived worse. She could survive this, too. She had to survive it.

Suddenly, Tomoko heard a scream. It was a mix of agony and rage. Ann had rushed out of her cover, trying to get revenge on the King, but had been shot before she could do so.

Tomoko gasped. Eyes wide, she slowly looked downward until she could fully stare at the numerous holes in her girlfriend's stomach. Ann gasped, too, right before she fell to the ground. Blood created a pool beneath her as she coughed, the same red coming from her lips.

Tomoko was paralysed. A multitude of emotions exploded within her in that second — grief, fear, anger, guilt, confusion.

How the hell had his happened?

They were winning; they had been winning. How had they begun to lose so easily? How had people died so quickly? Without a second thought, without a second chance...they had been gunned down like wild animals...

Whilst Tomoko was frozen, Kuina jumped into action straight away. She screamed in fury and leaped at the King of Spades, punching and hitting him with all of her strength.

Dazed for a few moments, he took the punches. But once he gained realisation again, he pulled out a hidden knife and stabbed Kuina in the stomach.

Not once. Not twice. Not even three times.

She was stabbed countless times.

The King tossed her away as if she were a rag doll. Her wounds were on full display, blood rushing out. She laid still, her only movement the rising and deflate of her chest as her breathing became shallow. Tomoko looked between Kuina and Ann. Then, she looked down at her own wound.

They all had a wound in the same spot; and they were all going to die the same horrible death.
