ONCE THE GROUP of three that played the Five of Hearts game had returned to The Beach in the car supplied to them, Ann turned to Tomoko and held out her hand, "Your knife – give it to me now. You know only the militants are allowed weapons."Tomoko tilted her head at her, "I'm surprised you don't have a weapon with all these trigger happy psychos running around."
"I don't need a weapon." Ann replied cooly.
Tomoko chuckled lightly, "Of course you don't. Anyway, surely you should be thanking me. I saved your life back there."
Ann raised an eyebrow at her, unimpressed. The woman's resolve was not easily broken. "The gun was not loaded; there was no threat."
"We didn't know that then." Tomoko shot back, "75 could have attacked you with their fists or even used the gun as a bludgeon. It was a Heart game, after all. Scared people are stupid."
"Fine." Ann sighed, looking between Tomoko and number 61, "The story stays the same apart from Tomoko killing them by beating them to death with the gun. Hatter will need to hear about this."
Then, she strode away and left the two women to follow after her. Hatter, the leader and creator of The Beach as well as number one, would be in the meeting room like usual. One of the rules of The Beach was that every card collected by every member of The Beach was given to number 1 for safe keeping. The Beach's plan was to collect every card in the deck and that would allow one person to go home. It was a stupid idea in Tomoko's eyes, and that was why she and her brother were planning to steal all the cards.
The three women waited until every other group of players had spoken to Hatter before entering the meeting room. The entire executive team (numbers 1 to 10) were seated inside.
Ann held out the Five of Hearts card to Hatter, which caused a lot of awed gasps, as she stated, "We have some unfortunate news."
Tomoko caught Chishiya's eye. He was staring at her concern, specifically the red blood stain on her dress. Tomoko shook her head, silently telling him it was not hers. He relaxed a little but it was clear he was still worried about her.
"Of course! It was Heart game." Hatter exclaimed in response to Ann's words. He kissed the card before placing it in his pocket to join the others given to him.
Ann cleared her throat, "Number 75 who accompanied us to the game was killed—" She turned to the woman, "—by Tomoko."
Tomoko felt all gazes on her. She ignored them. Every person's eyes were wide with shock. Many gasps sounded out again, gasps of surprise, gasps of fear. Tomoko noticed the militants (the violent faction of The Beach) grip their weapons tighter as if they were threatened, or maybe they were getting ready to punish her.
Ann continued, "She did it to protect me. We were playing a game that involved a gun and we had to shoot ourselves to complete it. Although we did not know until we completed the game, the gun contained no bullets. 75 turned on us and tried to shoot me, and so Tomoko beat him to death with said weapon."
