TOMOKO SPRUNG INTO action instantly. She got out of her bed and instead, hid underneath it, switchblade clutched tight in her hand. After a few moments, the voice died down and a new voice spoke up in a pleading tone, "I'll do anything, just do something for my leg!"
It was a young, feminine voice, one that reminded Tomoko of a high school girl's voice. However, the previous one was masculine, hoarse and he slurred his words.
The man cackled and Tomoko heard a bottle smash against the floor. Then, she heard soft weeping from the girl. What the hell was happening?
Sliding out from underneath the bed, Tomoko gripped her switchblade tighter in her hand as she creeped down the hallway towards where the two people could be heard. She continued to sneak forward, as silent as possible, before peering around a corner to watch what was occurring.
Tomoko soon realised what was happening. A man was taking off his clothes with a wicked grin on his face whilst the high school girl, with an injured, gangrenous leg, was crying. She clearly didn't want to go through with what was about to happen.
"Let her go." Tomoko said as she stepped out of her hiding spot.
The man turned to look at her. His eyes focused on her recently amputated arm and he began to guffaw, "Oh, so you're the rat who stole my things!"
"Let her go." Tomoko repeated with gritted teeth.
She noticed he was wearing a doctor's uniform, which was evil in her eyes. Doctors were supposed to help, not use people for their own benefit. That was one of the key differences between her and her brother. Chishiya went into the medical field to see if he had a heart, Tomoko went into the medical field to use her heart for good.
Helping people was always a key part of Tomoko's life, she supposed. It just got harder when she came to Borderlands — but Kuina had showed her it didn't have to be.
"I'll do whatever I desire. So, you better leave before I make you my next patient." The doctor hissed, taking a step toward her. After ripping off his lab coat, he snatched up a beer bottle he must've drank empty earlier and smashed it on the counter, turning it into a makeshift weapon.
"This is your last chance," Tomoko told him, pointing her own weapon at him. "Leave her alone."
Sighing, the doctor rolled his head to stretch his neck, sending a resounding crack through the room. Then, he lunged forward. Despite her weakened state, Tomoko managed to dodge sideward and the sharp glass of the broken beer bottle stabbed the air beside her. Tomoko believed she could win this fight; not only because of the man's drunken state but also because of her own powerful determination.
Grabbing the doctor's arm, the two began to wrestle for the weapon in his hand. The man grabbed Tomoko's arm as well, grabbing her wrist and pulling it backward to send a volt of pain through it. She let out a groan of pain and as much as she tried not to, her grip loosened on her switchblade and she dropped it.
The doctor attempted to stab Tomoko in the stomach but she kneed him in the groin before he got the chance. Then, she punched the man in his throat.
Coughing and choking, the doctor stumbled backward, holding the area she had hit. Soon, his expression changed from pain to anger, and he surged forward, grabbing her shoulders and shoving her.
Tomoko lost her balance and fell backward, meeting the floor with a thump! The doctor followed her, crouching down over her and grabbing her face roughly.
Spitting in his face, Tomoko used this as her chance to grab her weapon. The fluid went right in his eyes and he screwed them up with a frustrated yell. Tomoko snatched up her switchblade from beside her and held it upward.
Eyes still half closed, the man tried to lean over her again but he misjudged the distance and fell on top of her. Tomoko's blade shoved deep into his stomach. He gasped, eyes wide, and his hands flew to the wound. Still, Tomoko pushed the knife in deeper until blood pooled from his lips and dripped onto her face.
Once the doctor's body stilled and she was sure he was dead, Tomoko pulled her switchblade out of the man's body and shoved him off of her. Panting, she got to her feet, wiping the blood from her face, and headed over to the high school girl.
She had backed herself into a corner, sobbing in fear. As Tomoko approached her, she cried even harder and tried to shuffle away from her. She couldn't move much due to her leg.
"Hey, I'm not gonna hurt you." Tomoko told her in a soft voice. She realised that holding a weapon wasn't very helpful to show her peacefulness, so she slipped it into her pocket. "Let me see your leg. I'm a doctor, I can help. It looks like it needs amputating." She nodded at her own amputated arm, "See this? I did this not long ago. I'm experienced."
The girl wiped her tears, a brave look coming across her face, and nodded, "Just do what you have to."
