TOMOKO'S THROAT BURNED and her head spun, her vision swimming. She stumbled out of the parking lot, breathing heavily. She realised the more oxygen she inhaled, the quicker the effects of the gas went away.

Soon, she was able to take a deep breath without coughing. Her head stopped pounding and she could finally see clearly, her vision no longer tilted.

When she looked upward, she realised every other player was having the same reaction to the gas. But one person, the young high school girl, was having the worst reaction of them all. Maybe it was because of her age or maybe it was because of bad luck — either way, Tomoko knew she had to help her.

As Tomoko rushed over, the girl opened her mouth to shout for help, but instead coughed up an immense amount of blood.

"Let me help." Tomoko said although she was unsure if the girl could hear her. She crouched beside her, already shrugging off her white jacket, folding it neatly and placing it carefully under her head, "Keep breathing; I think the effects of the gas goes away after a bit of oxygen."

Thankfully, the school girl heard and nodded, clearly trying to focus on her breathing. Then, she vomited – violently. It was just a gross mess of her stomach's contents, along with lots of blood. Most of it went onto her clothes, the other parts hitting the cold pavement beneath her.

Suddenly, her body began to jerk. Her body went stiff, eyes stuck open and staring at nothing. Her arms and legs struck out harshly, unintentionally hitting Tomoko.

Fear ran through Tomoko. This poor fucking kid. She shouldn't be here completing these games; she should be anywhere else, having fun and actually living. Tomoko had to make sure she survived, no matter what.

When the girl's body finally stopped jerking, Tomoko laid on her on her side in the recovery position like she had practiced many times before. She was forcing herself to keep carefully breathing, not only to remove all of the gas inside her lungs but also to keep herself calm.

"It's you." The school girl suddenly said, staring up at Tomoko with wide eyes.

"It's me." Tomoko replied with a small smile, gently pulling the hair away from the girl's face and out of the vomit.

Then, the girl let her head drop onto the jacket, clearly enjoying its soft cushioning. At least she seemed somewhat alright now. "How are you feeling? Do you think you will be okay?" Tomoko asked.

The girl seemed to have little energy left after her seizure as she only nodded.

Still, Tomoko breathed out a sigh of relief, "Alright, that's good. I have to go find my brother now but if you feel sick, dizzy, have a headache or if you feel like you're having a general out of body sensation – those are the signs of you having another seizure."

With that, Tomoko left but not without one last glance back at the girl she had saved.

TOMOKO WAS RIGHT. Splitting up had been a horrible idea because Chishiya wasn't here. She had screamed his name until her voice was hoarse, she had checked nearby buildings and she had waited all night and most of the next day.

Worry laid heavy on her mind and hunger laid heavy on her stomach. She hadn't eaten since yesterday morning when she had completed the Jack of Hearts game, and she only had a small packet of biscuits with her.

Despite the fact Chishiya had told her not to move, she did. She nibbled on her biscuits, trying to get rid of the hunger with the least amount of food possible, as she went on a journey to find more food.

It wasn't long before she had come across a supermarket. It was mostly picked over and empty, but she managed to get her hands on some fruit, a bottle of water and some noodles.

She ate the noodles and drank the water then and there, but the fruit was fresh so she stuffed it into her pocket for later.

Time was completely different in Borderlands. Some things aged quicker than others, some aged slower — and apparently, some didn't age at all,  like the fruit she'd found.

So, Tomoko continued on her journey but this time, she attempted to head back to the spot where she was supposed to meet her brother.

However, she got distracted by a large, shiny blimp in the sky: the Queen of Clubs.

"It can't hurt, right?" Tomoko muttered under her breath, heading into the game venue in hopes of finding her brother.

She didn't find Chishiya...but she found somebody even more surprising.
