AMANDA
MY ENTIRE LIFE was starting to feel like a scene out of a movie. Nothing made as much sense as it had before I came here.
It was with great difficulty to admit to myself that l was not over Kyle. Maybe l never will be.
Finally done with a ten hour shift, l stood outside waiting for Lisa to come pick me up. I called her.
"You are late. Where are you?"
"I told you l was on my way. Be there in five."
"You said that fifteen minutes ago Lisa."
She had dropped me off that morning. Since she didn't have her own car we both used mine. It was luck that the hospital was on her way to work. I could easily walk if l really wanted to since the house was just a few minutes away but it was alreafy dark and l wasn't familiar with the place yet.
"Tell me the truth, are you really on your way?" I knew the answer but l just asked anyway.
"I was, but then this guy from work asked if we could grab a few drinks on the way. You did tell me to take my time though." I pushed my irritation away pinching the bridge of my nose.
"I'm sorry Amanda. I'm being a terrible friend ain't I?"
"Terrible." I muttered.
"How about this, you hang tight for ten minutes then, when we get home I cook your favourite meal as an apology." I considered.
"For two weeks. You left me out here stranded for some guy you just met. You deserve a bigger punishment."
"Come on you know that's not fair." She protested.
"Or l could just take my car and see how you get to work." We both knew l was joking but she groaned in mock annoyance.
"Fine. See you soon. I mean it this time." I stood for about five minutes before a black sleek car stopped in front of me. It was beautiful and looked quiet expensive. I was still frowning at it when the passenger window slid down revealing Kyle's handsome face.
Like all the times l saw him, my heart squeezed.
"I see you've been standing here for quite some time now. Are you waiting for someone?"
"Yes l am." I checked the time again and cursed under my breath. It was starting to get a little cold and Lisa was nowhere in sight.
"It's already a little late. I can give you a ride if you don't mind." He offered.
"No thanks. I wouldn't want to bother my senior." I rejected outright. My voice was dripping with sarcasm. Seeing Kyle and being confronted with my feelings for him was bad enough.
There was no way l could survive being in close proximity to him. And at such a small space.
"You can never be a bother."
My eyes flew to his and when our eyes met there was a jolt of electricity. Judging by the way his eyes widened he felt it too. He cleared his throat.
