KYLE
"YOU BETTER BE DYING. Either that or you caught yourself on fire."
"Uh..sorry to disappoint but I'm neither of those two. I am perfectly fine. And healthy." She grumbled something about doctors with a death wish. It brought a stupid smile to my face.
"What do you want?" Her voice didn't hide her obvious displeasure. She always hated it when someone woke her up before her set time.
"I uh...I just wanted to...uh." I cleared my throat.
"I can't sleep."
Okay that did not sound at all like the way I had wanted. Not in the least bit. She was silent for a few seconds. Probably trying to get over the shock of my statement.
"You really want to die I see. Luckily for you, hell's not open yet. So call in the damn morning like a goddamn normal person." She cursed and my nerves shot through the roof. Her mouth left nothing to be desired. It brought a smile to my face knowing some things really hadn't changed. It was a comfort to know it.
"I wanted to talk to you. Actually I'm in my car right now." I waited a beat.
"Outside your house." She was quiet for a few more seconds before she dramatically sighed.
"I see you're obviously in the mood to play around because you're clearly bored right now. But what do I know? I might just be delirious. I mean it is just two AM after all!" It was barely past eleven but I kept my mouth shut. She must have dozed off the moment she got home. I kinda felt bad for waking her up from her well deserved sleep but I had needed to see her. I couldn't wait until the morning.
"I'm serious." I pressed.
"Yeah okay, so hahaha you've got bad jokes. You really do, but I am in no mood for this. See you in the morning at work or they will have to report you missing if you keep this up." My smile slowly creeped into my face. After the kind of day I had, the longest and the most tortuous day I had, this was a small reprieve at the most. I sighed thinking about everything I wanted to get out of my chest.
"Amanda I'm serious. You can either come outside or I'm coming in. It's your choice. Either way I'm not leaving here without seeing you." There was a lot of scrambling for a long while.
"Go the damn away Kyle. I don't have time for this. Seriously what is wrong with you? I swear when I get my hands on you I'll..." She threatened through clenched teeth.
"I'm giving you fve minutes then I'm coming in. Your choice Amanda." She snorted.
"I'll like to see you try. I simply won't open the door."
"We'll see how your neighbours like the insistent banging of the door. And Lisa. Let's not forget about your dear friend with a smart mouth." She muttered something incoherent. Probably something foul I didn't want to hear.
"Asshole. I'm gonna gut you alive for this." I had no doubt she meant that.
"Five minutes. See you in a bit." I chuckled before dropping the call.
I dropped my phone on the centre console and watched the gate for any movement while thumping my fingers on the steering wheel. She was pissed and I smiled thinking what she might say when she got here.
