KYLE

"HOW'S MY FAVOURITE patient doing this lovely morning?" My face was on the brink of splitting from all the endless smiling I was doing.

"I'm okay. How's my number one, most favourite doctor doing?" He replied.

"Oh so you mean today I'm your favourite doctor? Or is it just because Amanda isn't here?" I pocked him a little making him screech with laughter. The way he laughed didn't hide just how uncomfortable he was. He didn't laugh the way a kid his age should laugh. It was sad to watch.

"Amanda is still my favourite doctor here." I gave him a hurt look which he laughed at again.

"My favourite female doctor. That's what I meant."

The kid's smile mirrored my own and I admired his tenacity. His steadfast and unwilling need to give up was impressive even for a nine year old. Especially for someone that young.

He still found joy in the simplest of things even when his situation wasn't pleasant. The same could be said for most children. They didn't spend all their time crying over their situations the way adults did. They always made their joy to be bigger than their problems.

That was their superpower. I rolled my eyes when I quoted Amanda. She always loved calling people's strengths their superpowers. Sometimes the word didn't really fit but she used it anyway. My smile grew when I thought about her. Again.

"Okay are you ready for your daily checkup?"

"Yeah but a nurse already checked up on me." He whined like all kids did. But he knew how necessary it was. You could see it in his eyes. It was really sad.

"This is an important procedure kid. You aren't getting out of this one that easily."

Thabang and his parents had been at the hospital for nearly a week and we still had no clue what to do to help him. Each day, we could see his parents losing hope but we weren't going to give up. Amanda had exhausted nearly every text book and files of any cases relating to his.

Just thinking about Amanda brought yet another huge wave of happiness throughout my body. It enveloped me like a warm blanket on a cold winter night. Thinking about everything we did the night before made all the kinky knots all over my body much more pleasurable than they had a right to be.

No-one had ever turned me on the way that she did. I had never enjoyed just making out with someone. Although I had to admit it way more than just making out. It could never be that with Amanda.

Each moment with her was burned to my soul like a mark of honour. I treasured each caress of her skin, every taste of her lips, every moan and every shudder, they were all precious like she was. I was hooked for life.

Glancing at Thabang innocently playing with his toy, I instantly dispersed of the dirty thoughts that had taken root in my mind. I felt like a dirty old man having such thoughts in front of a nine year old. I went over his chart, checked his pulse, eyes, and heartbeat. Looking for any irregularities that may be cause for concern.

I frowned when I pressed the stethoscope to his back, listening to the odd way he was breathing.

"Okay can you take another deep breath for me and hold it in until I tell you to. Perfect. Okay now breath out." The wheezing was the same even from his chest. We had run every possible tests but all had indicated that he was perfectly fit. It was hard to diagnose a person who had hidden symptoms.
