AMANDA

IT WAS FAIRLY late so the place was mostly deserted save for a few stalls from where we were and across the street. Kyle looked right at home with the widest grin I had ever seen on him and it was fairly easy to picture him here since he looked so comfortable.

All of my reservations about the night flew right out the window when he smiled and joked around with me. The place seemed to be some sort of a corner street or whatever it was called, where people had stalls and food trucks everywhere.

From what I could count, there were about eight food trucks from the side we were on. I wasn't sure how many there were from across the street. It made me wonder just how crowded the place was during the day.

It was now past eight so it was quite chilly. We sat down on a table outside and I was grateful for the crackling fire a few feet from where we were. The lights all around us didn't deem the lure from the bright starry night.

"Wow."

I said and looked over to Kyle only to find him staring at me with the same grin on his face.

"Wow."

A waiter interrupted our little stare off and I was almost surprised they even had one. It had been a while since I found myself waiting for food outsiders a fancy food truck. It was just strange but the place was perfect. Almost like the one back at home. Which I had avoided as much as possible because it had reminded me of my time with Kyle.

"What can I get you?" The guy asked with a smile after exchanging greetings and pleasantries. His familiarity with Kyle was oddly satisfying.

"I'll take it from here Luke. You can go inside and warm up a few things. I know exactly what this guy wants." The hauntingly beautiful woman said, while placing a hand on Kyle's arm. Prickles of jealousy ran down my spine at the smile she sent his way.

"If it isn't my favourite person and owner of my favourite spot." Kyle stood to give her a big hug which she all but shamelessly reciprocated. My eyes went wide when the hug lasted longer than two seconds. It wasn't even the small pat in the back kind of hug. No. It was a full on bear hug.

"If it isn't my favourite regular customer." Kyle chuckled letting go to sit back down. I felt like an intruder invading their little moment.

"Oh I'm just a customer now huh? That's not what you said when I came here last night."

Last night.

Last night?

The woman giggled placing her hand possessively on his shoulder. My back went rigid and I had to fight the urge to scratch her eyeballs out. I was never a person who was confrontational but at that moment I wanted to correct that. But I also had the strongest urge to get up and leave. It wasn't nice to see reminders of a life Kyle had without me.

"You know I'm just pulling your leg. You can never be just a customer. We both know we're way more than that." They shared a meaningful look and my heart plummeted to the pit of my stomach. I felt sick to the core. It hurt watching them and it gutted me even more that Kyle let me watch them. But my mind was still on what she said. I cleared my throat standing up to excuse myself. I wasn't going to be a voyeur to whatever it was they had going on.
