Chapter Forty-Four

"I didn't think you knew how to cook Boom boom boy." I say as I watch Bakugo chop vegetables.
"WHAT DO YOU THINK STUPID EXTRA? OF COURSE I CAN!" He yells at me while continuing to slice those poor carrots.
"You realize I'm the main character in the story right?" I ask him with obviousness.
The boy ashes me with his gaze so determined to go help elsewhere.

"Takeda! Can you think about setting the table?" Iida asks me, placing everything needed on the table.
With the use of my uniqueness I quickly set the table, putting all the dishes in the right order.
"I wish I had a quirk like that to set up my room too." Says Hagakure so I can't help but laugh with her.

Shoto POV

She is so beautiful.
She's laughing at something together with Hagakure and I stand dumbfounded looking at her.
She is having fun and that makes me happy.
I smile seeing her like that and I wish that smile would never fade.
Mei turns just then and catches me staring at her.
I quickly look away but I know she has seen me by now.
"Todoroki." Midoriya's voice draws my attention.
I turn to him and lend a hand as well.

I arrange my futon, preparing to go to sleep.
My companions are chatting about something when they call me back to them.
"Hey Todoroki. You come here too." Sero tells me, pointing to an empty seat next to him.
I gladly accept the invitation and join them by sitting on the floor beside him.
"We were talking about the fact that Midoriya should come forward with Uraraka." Kirishima says, throwing a small elbow at my embarrassed friend.

"Stop it! Sooner or later I will make a move on her!" Midoriya affirms, trying to hide his totally red face.
"What about you instead?" Kaminari asks me.
I look at them quizzically, not understanding what we are referring to.
"What?"
"With Mei. I mean, how things are going?" Sero interjects.
Mei.
"I don't know what it is. We are friends, I think. I still don't understand how I feel, though. When I'm with her I'm happy and I just want to see her smile. When she walks into a room, she lights it up and I can't help but look at her."
The boys look at me trying to hold back their laughter.

"Todoroki-I think you are in love with her." Midoriya says, smiling at me.
In love? With Mei?
That it's love?
"I am...in love with Mei?" I ask more to myself than to them.
Much of my companions nod while Bakugo gives a resounding snort.
"I knew you were an idiot but not this much! Of course you love her you imbecile! Why else would you have kissed her or how would you explain everything else?" Says Bakugo ready to yell at me.

I love her...
BUT CERTAINLY!
I LOVE HER!
I open my eyes wide finally understanding all my feelings.
The jealousy toward Bakugo and Kaminari.
The fact that my heart goes crazy every time she laughs or is near me.
The wanting to kiss her every time I see her.
It is not simple friendship.
It never has been.

I am in love with her.
"I am in love with Mei. I always have been!" I say staring at the floor.
"You finally realized it!" Sero says patting me on the back.
I smile as I look at all my new friends and feel good.

But what should I do?
"What do I do now?" I ask unconvinced.
"You have to declare yourself of course! In fact first I would apologize to her for all the recent events! And then tell her your feelings." Iida tells me by adjusting her glasses.
"No no. Before you declare yourself you should court her! Girls like that." Kirishima says nodding.

Telling her my feelings.
Apologizing to her.
"I don't even know what I should do..." I say blushing slightly.
"Compliment her! Like that you love her eyes and her hair and everything about her!" Midoriya says giving me a wide smile.
"Give her attention. Ask her how she is or about her day. And then talk to her Todoroki. This is not difficult for you. Besides, this is Mei we're talking about, she loves you madly, whatever happens will be fine." Sero gives me a small smile as the others nod.

"You have to make her laugh. Try a few jokes to break the ice and a few pickup lines." Kaminari says with a wink.
"What pickup lines? Give me examples please." I ask him desperately.
I need all the help I can get.
"Something like, I'm sorry, but is your name Alice? Because someone like you can only come from Wonderland." Denki tells me with conviction.
"Or: You're beautiful, you know what would look good on you? Me!" Sero advises me.

The boys burst out laughing.
"Are you sure this will work?" I ask unconvinced.
I don't know if such a thing will work with Mei.
"Absolutely! You'll see that you'll hit the jackpot!" Kaminari tells me with a thumbs up.
"You are dumbasses." Says Bakugo going to get into his futon to sleep.

THE NEXT MORNING

I went over all night the phrases my classmates suggested and all their advice.
I think I can do it today!
First I will try to break the ice, as I was told, then I will have to apologize.
For everything.
Finally I will tell her my feelings!
That can work.

I walk out of the room of us boys, all changed for today's training.
I see her from a distance talking about something together with Uraraka so I decide it's the right time.
"Good morning." I say to both girls and Mei turns around giving me a smile.
How beautiful she is.
"Good morning Shoto! Did you sleep well?" She asks looking at me with her big gray eyes.
Uraraka slowly walks away and I have to remember to thank her later.
"Yes I slept well thank you. Mei, you look really beautiful today, do you know what would look good on you?"
The girl opens her eyes wide and blushes at my words.

"No I don't know..." She tells me scratching the back of her neck.
"Wonderland." I tell her convinced.
The girl looks at me confused, dropping her arm along her side.
"Wonder... I don't understand Shoto."
"No sorry, it wasn't Wonderland. Is your name Alice by any chance?"
I start sweating from nervousness and wringing my hands.
I'm making a mess.
"Alice? Shoto you know my name, are you okay?" Mei asks me, approaching me slightly.
"Yes, I'm great. Great actually..."
My words are interrupted by Aizawa calling us to start today's training.

I'm a mess.

A/N

you can't tell me this wouldn't be canon.
Shoto doesn't know how to flirt and Sero along with Denki would only know how to give bad advice about love.

I laughed more than I should have writing this chapter.
