Chapter Forty-Five

"WE HAVE LEARNED OF ONE OF THE VILLAINS' TARGETS!"
The hero's voice echoes in our heads as Shoto makes an ice attack to stop the villain in front of us.
"THE STUDENT NICKNAMED KACCHAN! KACCHAN WHEREVER YOU ARE, DON'T FIGHT AND TAKE COVER!"
I turn to Bakugo worriedly.
He is their target!

"KATSUKI! You need to get to safety now!" I tell him, taking him by the arm.
"ABSOLUTELY NOT! I HAVE TO FIGHT! YOU KNOW I WON'T LEAVE." He responds by yanking me.
The moment the blond man screams, the villain launches an attack in his direction so I take control of his body and move him to the other side.
"This guy knows how to use his specialty to his advantage. We're trapped here!" Shoto says as he looks around.
"With all this ice blocking my view, I can't even do much. Attacks using trees have been totally useless!" I say looking for a way out.

The moment I get distracted, I suffer the villain's attack.
One of his blades cuts me at calf level. I scream in pain before bending over myself.
"MEI!" Shoto shouts running toward me.
He sits down next to me immediately grabbing my leg.
"Think of Bakugo. I'm fine!" I tell him through clenched teeth as he rips off a piece of his shirt.
"Don't think for a moment that I prioritize him over you!" The two-tone quickly wraps my leg and ties a tight knot to stop the bleeding.
I grit my teeth as Shoto positions me on his shoulders.
"That should do it." Says the boy.
I turn to look at Bakugo and notice something strange in his gaze, like guilt.
Helplessness.

Suddenly, loud noises from a distance catch our attention.
Something fast and big is coming toward us sweeping away all the trees in front of it.
Two figures show up in the distance and become clearer and clearer.
They are Shoji and Deku! Midoriya is on the other boy's back and has blood on his face. He looks badly injured.
"BAKUGO! TODOROKI! ONE OF YOU MAKE LIGHT!" Shoji shouts to the two boys.
Behind them, a huge shadow steps out, continuing to destroy everything in its range.
"IT'S TOKOYAMI!" I shout, looking at the poor screaming boy in the clutches of his own power.
"HE'S LOST IT!" Shoji shouts.

The Darkshadow continues to attack everyone so Shoto prepares to use fire but Kat stops him.
I think I understand why she stopped him.
Shoji and Deku get out of its way as Tokoyami's quirk attacks the villain.
It gives him no respite by keeping him trapped in its dark clutches.
He throws him away from us and the villain is covered in blood as he slams into the ground losing consciousness.

Bakugo uses his explosions to shed light so finally the Darkshadow calms down.
Tokoyami falls to the ground on his knees recovering from the suffering he was suffering until now.
"Thank you for saving me." Tokoyami says as he looks at us.
As the boy recovers we think about how to act from this moment.

"The main thing is to protect Katsuki while we escort him back to camp!" I say trying to get off Shoto's back.
"What are you doing?" The two-toned man says to me, gently leaning me on the ground.
"What a hero would do. Protecting someone, even when you are injured. And all the more so if that person is a close friend." I say limply in the direction of the blond.
"No way Mei! You can't walk in this condition and you certainly need to stay in my line of sight!" Shoto says taking my hand.

"Shoto, I can take care of myself okay? Trust me." I say stroking his hand.
The boy is unconvinced but lets me go as I stand at Bakugo's side.
"BUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING IDIOTS? I DON'T NEED PROTECTION!" The blond starts yelling as he is totally ignored by all of us.

"Let's go!" Says Shoji putting himself at the head of the queue.
We start walking through the forest in the direction of the camp.
We hope the rest of our classmates are okay, too.
And the teachers, too.
I look at Bakugo who looks even angrier than usual.
"The leg." He tells me with his gaze fixed in front of him.
I look at him for a few seconds seeing Shoto's shirt now smeared with blood.
"It hurts but it doesn't really matter right now." I say hobbling to his side.

"You should have stayed on your boyfriend's shoulders. You're an idiot for walking in this condition." He says looking at me for a few seconds.
I smile knowing that this is his way of showing me his concern.
"I'm sure if the situation had been reversed, you would have done the same for me." I tell him, smiling.
The boy comes up with a "tch" before turning away.
I'm about to ask him how he feels when I hear a clatter of branches behind us.

"Did you hear that?" I ask the blond.
The boy looks around having also heard the same thing.
I am about to call the rest of the group's attention when I am sucked inside something.

Then nothingness.
