Chapter Forty-Six

Shoto POV

"Uraraka! Your wound!" Midoriya says, noticing the dripping blood from our companion's arm.
The girl assures us that she is fine and can walk.
"In any case, I'm glad to see you're okay! You should come with us, we are escorting Kacchan to the camp." Says Deku.
"You are escorting Bakugo? Then why isn't he with you?" Asui asks us, tilting his head.
We quickly turn back and it's ... empty.
Mei and Bakugo are gone.
Mei is not there.
Mei, who was behind me and whom I should have been protecting, is not there.

I start to fidget and look around.
"They are not there. THEY ARE NOT THERE." I shout toward the group.
The boys look at me frightened and worried too when a voice calls our attention.
"I used my magic to catch them! The girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but he ... He doesn't have what it takes to be a hero, not until there is a place where he can shine the brightest!"

My anger increases more and more as the villain holds my Mei in his hands.
"GIVE THEM BACK!" Deku shouts toward the masked man standing on the branches.
The villain lets out a healthy laugh as he runs blue marbles through his fingers.
"I would say our mission here is concluded. Thank you very much for your participation mini heroes, next time you will do a better job than this." The man gives a small bow before vanishing into the trees.

"NO! HE CAN'T LEAVE!" I shout, throwing a wall of ice in the direction the villain went.
I can't think straight right now.
I start running my hands through my hair, pulling it lightly.
"Midoriya! Todoroki! You need to calm down! This is not the time to panic." Shoji tells us, trying to get us to calm down.
I stare at my comrades and I am sure all my anger and despair shines through my eyes.
"Uraraka make us float! When you see that we are close to him, deactivate your specialty! Asui you, on the other hand, launch us with your tongue with all the strength you have, so we can catch up with him at great speed." Midoriya explains as the girls immediately execute the plan.

I position myself at Shoji's side as we are surrounded by Asui's tongue, Uraraka floats us.
"Save them, okay?" The green-haired girl tells us before launching us in the direction of the villain.
All three of us scream as we are catapulted over the masked man.
We reach him in a second and throw ourselves on top of him as we fall to the ground.
We keep him pinned to the ground but look up and find other villains in front of us.
There is the girl who attacked Asui and Uraraka, a guy totally in overalls with a masked face, and another black-haired guy with scars on his face held on with what look like paper clips.

"Mister, divert him." Says the latter.
Suddenly blue flames hit us and the heat totally overtakes me.
Blue flames...
I can't reason, now obscured by anger, so I think only of attacking these villains.
I have to get her back.
I have to save her.
"Do you have Bakugo?" Asks the blue-flame villain to the one who captured the two boys.
"Sure!" He says putting his hand in his pocket but freezes.

Shoji shows us the two marbles in his hand.
When-never mind!
"IT'S DONE!" I shout turning toward him.
As we talk, portals begin to appear in front of us, the same ones from the attack on the USJ.
It's that purple-smoked villain.
It's his handiwork.
"I want to reward your courage guys! But you were not sharp enough..." As he says this, the magician sticks out his tongue showing us more blue marbles.
At the same instant from Shoji's hand my ice is released.
It was a trick, a pretense!

The villains are about to leave when a laser beam starts from behind us, striking the masked man full in the face.
This is Aoyama's doing.
The marbles are spit out of his mouth and without hesitation I run in their direction.
I have to catch it.
This is my chance.
You can do it Shoto, save her!

I am within millimeters of the ball when a hand full of purple scars catches the marble right in front of my face.
"What a pity, Todoroki Shoto." The black-haired villain says to me while staring into my eyes.
I fall to the ground the moment the masked villain releases his quirk.
From the marbles, Bakugo and Mei materialize.
He has one arm around the girl's neck while the other villain holds the blond.

Mei stares at me with frightened eyes as tears begin to stream down her face.
As I stand up, just as they appeared, they disappear.
No.
No.
It is not possible.
Mei!
MEI!

I drop to my knees as I release a desperate scream that echoes throughout the forest.
She is gone, they have taken her.
And I couldn't save her.
