How she wished she could draw her eyes away from the sight before her, but she simply could not.

Her body had been numb the last few days, but now it felt different.

The only thing that would knock her out her trance would be the child's cries from across the pebbled street, a nudge on her shoulder as someone scurried past.

It was as though she was watching the greatest horror of all unfold. "Excuse me, ma'am?"

The unfamiliar name caused Dallia to peek from under her hood at the man who now sat on the ground beside her. "Y-Yes?"

"I only need another two pence to afford a piece of bread," he quivered, his hands shaking.

The princess froze for a second, hoping the material over her head would hide her teary eyes as she looked down at the man.

"You don't look as though you are from these parts, ma'am," he continued. "You seem brighter than the rest of us."

Dallia gulped, she knew that to be true. The white dress she wore beneath her cloak contrasted heavily against the beige and brown everyone else seemed to wear. "Oh, it's okay. You needn't explain yourself, sir."

Her hands shook as she dug into her deep pockets, praying that the loose change didn't cause too much sound.

Shakily she handed him double, her heart aching that she couldn't do more. "Eat well, please."

With that, she walked away, hearing the man's words of gratitude from behind her. It was so little, yet he was so grateful.

One man she didn't know had treated her with much more kindness than her own father.

The coldness of the church didn't do wonders for the princesses increasing nausea. She tried so hard not to wrap her arms around her stomach as though she was protecting her child from the heat. "We weren't sure when we would see you again, princess."

"I can only apologise," Dallia smiled sadly. "Things have been a little hectic. I am to marry tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" The reverend gasped as she nodded. "Then why have you ventured out? You know the dangers. Don't tell me you desire to be out of the wedding that badly."

The girl chuckled, shaking her head as she sipped on the tea the reverend had poured for her. "I'm scared, I must admit. I couldn't marry tomorrow without informing you I intend to hold out on my promise."

With a smile, the man simply nodded. "You always do the best that you can. It'll take a lot to fix everything around here, you do know that, don't you?"

"I do," Dallia sucked in a breath. "But it's something I must do. I'm a woman of my word, and that's why I shall unfortunately marry tomorrow."

"But what about staying true to your father's word, princess?"
