Despite her many disputes about the meeting, the princess held her head high and decided she would attend. She knew her father would drag her by the ears if she didn't muster up the courage to go herself.
The courage she had was limited, in this case. Dallia decided to use the fire that burnt in her heart for the things that she wanted as a fuel to attend here today.
"Now join hands," the king ordered, watching as his daughter rolled her eyes slyly. "This isn't a joking matter, Dallia."
"I never said it was," she retaliated, glancing over at Kevin's mother who glared at her. She knew why, after all, she did reject her son. "I'm willing to do this."
Kevin glanced up at the girl, his palms were just as sweaty as hers. This all felt too much like a ritual than the ideal proposal he once had in mind.
Dallia watched as he dropped to his knee, the hand which still held hers was shaking, almost making the girl laugh.
She couldn't take the situation seriously, as much as it was paining her. Maybe that was her way of dealing with things.
"There's no need to ask, Hyungseo," her fathers words echoed the room. "This is more of an arrangement."
"I would feel better asking, your majesty," Kevin nodded, to which her father simply motioned for him to go ahead. His mouth felt dry and the twitching of the girls lip who stood above him only made him all the more nervous. "Princess Dallia..."
"Stop laughing, Dallia," the king ordered, watching as the girls cheeks puffed up slightly.
The laughter that was threatening to erupt from her lips was not wholly reflective of how she felt deep down.
Truthfully, she admired Kevin being on his knee before her. It meant a lot to her that although this situation wasn't ideal, he was still trying to make this moment as special as he could, for her sake and for his own.
"Will you marry me?" He breathed out, the girl humming as her father glared at her.
The simple word was difficult to speak, the princess closing her eyes for a moment as she thought about how this was deemed to be the biggest moment of her life.
She wondered what the biggest moment would actually be, but her mind was too clouded with thoughts of the coachman who stood outside the castle as this situation took place.
His grin and contagious laughter rang in her ears, as though he was sitting in the room. His tussled hair and strong frame was all that occupied her mind, and she felt delusional for wishing that he was the one kneeling before her.
For she hadn't felt for him for long, but she guessed that this was the way life was for everyone here, in one way or another.
People would fall in love quickly, married at a young age and setting off to conquer the trials and tribulations of life together.
