Kylo was in a black nether space - a void of some sort.
"I love you." He said to Rey who was standing opposite.
"You're nothing to me, Kylo Ren. So weak, it should've been you that died. Your father was a great man, look at yourself. What are you compared to the great Han Solo?" Said Rey.
His father, Han appeared before him. A younger version of him. Rey looked at Han and started kissing him which made Kylo's stomach turn.
"It was never you." She said, drawing away from Han's lips.
She picked up her blue lightsaber and plunged it through his chest, every bit of darkness gone from her.
"Rey! I-I" Kylo called after her, sinking to his knees.
Kylo woke up, breathless and sweating on the sofa. He felt disgusted by the thought of Rey and his father. Rey stirred next to him. His heart was pounding. The dream had felt so real. I mean, why would she mean anything to him? Maybe she was right. Maybe this would be her reaction to his feelings. Maybe she only liked the part of him that was Han. He slowed his breathing, hoping to slow his heart rate. Rey sat up sleepily.
"Are you okay?" She asked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
He couldn't speak.
"Hey what's wrong?" She asked placing a hand on his magnificent back and rubbing it.
He shook his head.
"Shall we go back to your room?" She asked. All he could manage was a nod.
She handed him his clothes and he put them on, still shaking. She put hers on and they walked.
"You didn't see us here." She said to the troopers, waving an arm in front of his face.
"We didn't see you here." The troopers repeated back to her.
They got back to his room and she walked him to his bed. She pretended not to notice he was crying.
"Want me to stay a while?" She asked. She wasn't sure whether he wanted her around at this point. "I can't imagine anybody would possibly want to be alone right now."
"Yeah." He whispered, his voice wavering.
"Lie back then." She said comfortingly. He lay his head on her chest and she placed one arm on his. She began to play with his hair. He held her hand and every now and then, she leant down and kissed his head. She knew in situations like these, it was best not to ask questions, just let him have the knowledge that somebody was there.
He listened to her heartbeat as his head lay on her chest. He wanted to look her in the eyes and tell her he loved her, that he felt inferior to her, like he could never match up to the expectations she had. How he could never compare to his father in her eyes. He knew now, that was the right word to use to describe his feelings- love.
He hated her seeing him like this, although right now, he didn't want anyone else by his side. He'd rather just bask in her comfort and her gentle breaths radiating through him as his head lay on her chest. He knew she wouldn't go anywhere and he somehow felt safe whenever he was with her.
He turned and lay on his side facing her. She did the same. Tears still lingered in his eyes. She wiped them away.
"Allergies?" She said lightheartedly.
"Sonething like that." He replied.
"It'll be okay you know" she said, holding his face with both hands. "It just will.
He bought her into a tight hug. He longed to be as close as he could to her. She hushed him softly, stroking his head and with that, he started to calm down and his heartbeat steadied.
"Stay?" He asked, loosening his grip on her.
"Always." She whispered.
She tilted her head and kissed him softly, still stroking his forehead.
"I'll stay whenever you want me to." She calmly said.
'Always, I want you to stay always.' He thought to himself.
The thought of love, of vulnerability terrified him. The very idea of putting his heart out on the line for her shook him to his core.
This was the first time they had shared a bed of their own accord. The previous times had been just after they'd had sex but this was a comfort, this was something new.
Exhausted, he closed his eyes. Rey thought it'd be best if she waited for him to fall asleep first. He was practically passing out anyway. He was absolutely exhausted. She kept on stroking his head, twisting his soft raven locks around her fingers until finally she felt him fall asleep. She shut her own eyes, holding him as close as she could. As she started to finally drift into sleep, clutching Kylo Ren in her arms, she thought about how far they'd come together. And then, sleepily one question echoed around her mind:
"What could be troubling him this much?"
