Rey awoke laying in a grassy field of multicoloured wild flowers. She sat up groggily."Rey. What the hell were you thinking?" She heard Luke say as he walked up behind her.
She rose to her feet and looked at him.
"You hurt my sister." He said. He looked disappointed. "Rey I've failed you."
"No. You don't get my sympathy. This wasn't you, this was always me. It's in my blood and it's my birth right." She snapped.
Luke stayed silent.
"What? Are you going to take the easy option and try to murder me too like you did with Ben?" She continued, harshly.
"I sensed darkness in you when we first met. When I first trained you, you went straight to the dark but that doesn't make it your birth right. We all have darkness in our souls, but nobody is born dark." He said calmly. "Look. I can't turn your heart, you've made that perfectly clear." He continued, rolling his eyes. "But I know someone who might be able to help."
Just then, another figure faded into view. A young man with silky brown hair cascading down to his shoulders and a scar over his eye.
"Walk with me." He said.
Rey followed him.
"I guess you're wondering who I am." He said, looking over at Rey.
She gave him a perplexed look.
"I was once a Jedi like you..."
"I'm not a Jedi." Rey spat.
"I was once a Jedi like you and I was seduced to the dark side by temptation and for love." He said.
"What do you mean?" Rey asked
"I knew the love of my life was going to die, I could feel her death approaching and I tried to tear down the galaxy to save her. It swallowed me whole and no matter how hard I fought or slaughtered, none of it bought her back." He sighed. "I still miss her every day and I still try to find ways to reach her."
"You're Anakin Skywalker aren't you?" Rey asked.
Anakin nodded.
"Don't go down the same path I did." He said.
"I'm caving in, I feel like I'm unravelling." Rey said, a tear rolling down her cheek.
"Loss is a part of life, it brings balance to existence. There's both good and bad, things don't just go one way, that's what brings us balance." He said comfortingly. "Come."
He walked over to a river, it was trickling, the clear water rippling over the stones.
He sat down on the bank and gestured for Rey to sit beside him.
"Look into the water." He told Rey.
She peered into the rippling water.
"What do you see?" He asked.
"I see...myself. I'm...I'm alone." She replied.
"Now reach out to your reflection, look closer and this time with your feelings." He said.
Rey leant over again, shut her eyes, took a deep breath in and opened her eyes. This time she saw Ben. Not Kylo, Ben. He rested his head on hers and smiled.
"Closer." Anakin whispered.
Another face came into view, It was a little girl with wavy black hair, matching Ben's almost exactly, her head peering over his shoulder and wrapping her arms around him.
A yellow ball of light swirled around their heads.
"Is that...?" She trailed off, more tears in her eyes.
"Your son will always be with you as long as you keep him in your hearts. And that, there." He said pointing at the little girl on Ben's back. "That's your daughter, my great granddaughter."
Rey's heart sang as she smiled for the first time in a long time. She looked over at Anakin.
"What do you see when you look into the river?" She asked.
"I see Luke and Leia, but I see them as children and sometimes, I look into the river and I watch them grow up like I should've done." He said. "Don't make the same mistakes I did. Your heart is light, you do not belong to the dark side." He said.
"Thank you." Rey whispered.
Anakin put his arm around her.
"Let Ben know how much you love him." He said softly. "I never told Padme enough and people can be gone in a heartbeat." He looked at the ground sadly.
"You'll find her again someday." Rey said.
"There's someone who wants to see you before you go back." Anakin said, getting to his feet and helping Rey up.
He gestured towards a log cabin a few yards away from where they were standing. She looked at Anakin who smiled back at her. They hugged and then he faded out of view.
She walked over to the cabin...wondering...hoping...knowing. She opened the door and there he was, the very person she'd longed to see for so long.
"Rey." Whispered a man with dark hair and a moustache.
"Dad?" She whispered. She leapt into his arms and held him tight.
"My baby girl." He said, holding onto her.
"Dad...I...where are you? Where's mum?" She sobbed, still not letting go of her.
"We had to let you go, we couldn't let him hurt you." He said. "We can't be with you in person, but we're always with you in spirit." He whispered.
"I can't believe...it's you." She whispered back, hoping it wasn't some trick.
"I am so proud of you. We both are." He said.
Rey heard the door open behind her. She drew away from the hug with her father and looked round to see her mother standing there.
"Mum..."
"My baby." She replied, hugging her and kissing her forehead.
"But you have no reason to be proud, I've done terrible things and I...I've been so..." Rey started.
"We're proud of you no matter what. We've seen how strong you've become and you always do things for other people. You went down the wrong path but it's what you do next that counts." Her mother said gently.
"We're sorry we couldn't be there, kiddo but you've done such a good job growing up without us and we're always with you. Our daughter's a Jedi and we couldn't be prouder." Rey's father said.
"I don't want this to end." Rey said, holding both her mother and father's hands.
"It's got to end, you've got to go back. We'll be with you always, as will the force." Her mother said. They both enveloped her in a hug and suddenly the world began to fade away.
