If ever Kylo Ren had a soft spot, which he did, Rey and his unborn child were it. He would lay with Rey in the lazy evenings with his head next to the bump that was now becoming rather prominent in the last few months.
Due to Rey's condition, they'd put training on hold for a while. As a matter of fact, the First Order's movements remained minimal. They'd had the odd battle here and there and the occasional planning meeting, but Kylo Ren was focussing more time on Rey and his unborn child.
They'd set up some things for the baby's arrival in Kylo's room where him and Rey slept, a cot laden with blankets, a mobile of the stars and a small white teddy with a red ribbon around its neck.
"It's a boy, I can sense it." She'd say.
"I know we've got a little girl," Kylo responded each time.
They'd become quite unofficially official now, having a baby does that to two people. Hux of course had plenty to say on the matter and didn't trust Rey at all. He was certain that this was her plan all along, to tempt him towards the light and distract him from his duties to the first order.
And indeed, he was thinking about leaving the order altogether, settling down with Rey and having a normal life full of cooking dinners, house hunting and raising children. He knew that she was growing more loyal to the dark side and if he handed over his position to Hux, he would surely come after him and his family and he refused to put Rey or their child in danger. Plus, the granddaughter of Palpatine and the grandson of Vader having a child would shake a lot of people. There would always be someone coming for them. They were safer with the first order.
Rey stood admiring herself in the mirror. Her bump protruded from the dark material that was wrapped around her chest. She saw Kylo walk up behind her. She smiled at him in the mirror as he grew closer. He hugged her from behind, placing his hands upon her stomach. He kissed her on the side of her face and then buried his face in her neck.
Rey felt an almost glowing, light and peaceful feeling in her belly. She had felt it for the last few weeks now, especially when Kylo was around. She'd never felt anything like it before. The knowledge than somebody was growing inside of her, being at one with a whole tiny person was astonishing enough.
They clambered into bed. The reality grew on them each day.
"Do you think he'll have your eyes?" Rey asked.
"I think she'll have yours." He said, kissing her on the cheek.
"It's a boy."
"It's a girl."
"He's growing inside of me, I can tell."
"I think about her all the time." Kylo said. "Touching her tiny hands against mine, her little fingers not even big enough to wrap around my thumb."
He held Rey's hand and showed her the image of him holding their baby and the baby gripping his thumb. He jiggled her in his arms. Rey came over and kissed him on the cheek and kissed the tiny infant on the head who was kicking her legs joyfully. Things seemed to move in slow motion. Rey made faces at the baby and which made kylo smile.
They faded out of the image, tears in their eyes. They smiled and laughed.
Their lips tenderly kissed and cherished one another. Kylo's tongue traced over her lips, asking permission to enter her mouth. Rey's went to meet his. His hands gently lay upon her face. Their lips smiled into one another.
"I don't think I've ever been so in love with you." He said, his voice trembling.
Rey pushed his shoulders down and straddled him.
"Careful." He said, worried, supporting her sides with his hands.
He sat up and held her. She giggled.
Then, her face fell.

"Something's wrong," she said panicked.
"Hey, hey you're ok," he said, lifting her off.
"Kylo." She said. "Kylo something's really wrong."
It was his turn to look worried. Rey shakily looked at him and pointed at his middle. He looked down to see his torso covered with blood. Rey stood up, aghast. The sheets were all covered with blood.
Her breathing quickened. Kylo jumped off of the bed. She dropped to the ground, writhing and screaming in agony, clutching her stomach.
Kylo lifted her up and carried her to the medical wing.
"Help, please help her, she's pregnant and she was bleeding." He said to the doctors.
The doctors lay Rey on a stretcher.
"I can't feel him anymore, Kylo, I can't feel him." She sobbed as they rushed her into a room.
Kylo ran after her, but was stopped by two doctors.
"I have to see her, I have to get to her," he pleaded.
"We'll do our best, she's in the best hands in the galaxy, sir but I can't let you through." The doctor said.
"Please, I need to.." he said, shakily.
"Take a seat and I'll inform you of any change in her condition. I'm sorry, sir but you aren't permitted to enter." She said again.
Kylo took a seat outside the room. Minutes seemed like hours. He refused to sleep. Finally, one of the doctors came out with a grave look on her face. She sat down beside Kylo, placed her hand on his shoulder.
"We think Rey's going to be okay, she's responded well to our treatment, but your child sadly didn't make it." She said sadly.
Kylo's heart almost stopped. A pain tore through him and he started to tear up.
"Miscarriage is very common in first pregnancies," the doctor continued. "I am so sorry for your loss."
"And Rey?" He said through tears, his voice wavering. "Rey - does she know?"
"She's sleeping. She lost a lot of blood, but we've stabilised her condition and she's just resting. You can go and see her if you like."
"Thank you." He said standing up.
The doctor ushered him into the room where Rey was sound asleep. She was hooked up to a heart monitor. He sat beside her bed, holding her cold, lifeless hand.
It was heartbreaking to see. She was in a death-like state. Her face was pale and her eyes, though closed were sunken. She lacked that warmth that usually radiated off of her. Kylo rested his head on her bed, still holding her hand. He was absolutely exhausted but he needed to be there when she woke up, he had to be the one to tell her.
Tiredness overcame him and he fell asleep in his chair, head resting on the bed and still holding her hand.
She awoke to blinding white lights. She sat up and moved her hand which she realised Kylo was holding. He sat upright, inhaling deeply.
"Rey."
