After their swim in the lagoon, they decided to light a campfire to warm up. They sat on the log Kylo had out there as a seat. He put his arm round her as the heat from the fire warmed their bodies. The orangey glow flickered across their faces.

They didn't talk for a long while, just sat in each other's company because that's all they really needed.

"I'm gonna go to bed." She said bluntly after a while.

Kylo followed her into the hut. The mattress and duvet felt like clouds. After a long day, getting into a soft bed was exactly what the pair needed.

Kylo lifted her upper body onto his, kissing her collarbone and neck which he knew drove her wild. She leant her neck over, allowing him to move upwards with his lips.

"It'll be alright, you know," kissing her on the head.

"Mmm," she mumbled in response.

She shut her eyes and as he did every night, he began stroking her hair again.

He thought about his growth and his journey. Before he met Rey, he felt almost nothing. Everything that made him feel, he responded to with anger and now he'd grown stronger. He felt love in his heart and he felt happiness which he hadn't felt in a long, long time. He felt protective of her and like nothing else mattered in the whole galaxy but her. He stopped stroking her head and lay his head down with hers.

She was healing, very slowly but she was and he was too. He stayed strong for her, for Rey. He was hurting inside, of course he was but looking after her healed a part of him.

After a few days of relaxation, it was time to leave their little getaway planet and get back to the first order ship.

When they returned, Hux immediately came to speak to them.

"Sir, we've found the resistance base." He said.

He looked uneasy. He knew these were Rey's friends. He turned to look at her.

"We plan to infiltrate tomorrow night." Hux finished. "This could be the ultimate test of loyalty for the scavenger," he said, reaching out to touch Rey's cheek.

She slapped his hand away.

He had a point though, Rey was uncertain if she really had the willpower to destroy the people she once called friends. If it proved her loyalty to Kylo and got Hux off her back, maybe it was worth doing. After all, they'd betrayed her.

Looking back at it, Rey knew they knew she was suffering, that she was conflicted. She thought back to Leia's lies and manipulation, which sparked a surge of anger in her. She'd lost enough already and enough was enough.

The anger in her chest rising and boiling, she said only two words.

"I'm ready."
