My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on my window.

I saw it was Elise, so I rolled down the window.

"I'm gonna go home to take a shower and change."

"Okay, cool, ill meet you there. I gotta make a run real quick."

She walked away, and I rolled my window up. I sat there for a second and heard Elise pull off.

I pulled out of the parking lot and headed to see someone I hadn't seen in a while.

I must've blacked out because the next thing I knew, I was pulling up to the graveyard where my dad was buried.

I haven't been to visit his grave in a while because of me living in L.A and my job and child are keeping me busy.

I got out of the car and walked up to his tombstone.

He died when I was young, and my memories of him are starting to fade the older I get.

"Wassup pop, I know I haven't seen you in a while, but I just wanna stop by and check in real quick."

I probably look crazy talking to a dead person who doesn't hear me, nor can he talk back, but it feels like he is here with me and listening.

"I want to ask you about my work situation."

I sit down on the gravel road in front of his grave.

"My boss wants me to take his position as head of the hospital since he's retiring in a couple of weeks."

I looked up at the moon.

"And I would take it, but something tells me it's not what I want."

I heard a crow and looked around to find out where it was, but it was too dark.

"I want to make music. It's the only thing that's felt right to me. But I don't want to repeat toxic patterns. I love music, but I feel like music doesn't love me back."

I took a deep breath, defeated in attempting to make a decision.

I look at my watch and get up.

"Well, I gotta go, but thanks for listening to me. I miss you so much. I wish you were here."

I kissed my fingers and touched his headstone. I walked back to my car and drove to Elise's house.

When I pulled up in her driveway, I parked the car and sat there for a minute, collecting my thoughts.

I put my face in my hands and released a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

I got out and walked to her door. I knocked and heard her yell it was open from the inside.

I walked in and saw her in a bathrobe walking upstairs.

"What I tell you about leaving ya doors unlocked. What if I was a serial killer or something?"

"I was betting on it," She said, turning a corner when she got upstairs.

I shook my head and closed and locked the door behind me. I walked upstairs to her room.

"I said I would take you out, but can we just chill tonight?"

She was putting on some sweats and an oversized t-shirt.

Her hair was in a messy bun with a freshly moisturized face.

"I was hoping you would say that because I am to tired to go out."

She walked back into the bathroom and grabbed her dirty clothes off the floor, and put them in the laundry basket.

I followed her every move with my eyes, and I guess she felt me staring because she grabbed her phone off the sink while giving me the middle finger.

"Why are you so mean to me?" I said playfully.

"Have you not met you?"

I rolled on my back, holding my chest, acting like her words hurt.

"Girl, get off my bed actin a fool."

She left the room and headed downstairs.

I got up and followed her. She turned on the TV and walked to the kitchen.

I grabbed the remote and turned on Netflix.

She came back with two bottles of water.

"Was gonna order something what you wanna eat."

She asked, grabbing the blanket on the back of the couch.

"Weeelll," I said, trying to get closer to her. She stopped me and moved away a little bit.

"No"

I sucked my teeth and sat back.

"Chinese," I responded, looking at the tv.

She turned it to HBO Max and played The Nun.

"You know I don't like scary movies, right," I said, looking at her as she picked up her phone and ordered our food.

"You know this is my house, right." She responded on the phone with the restaurant.

I scooted close to her to get under the blanket.

She looked at me, and I held my hands up.

"Alright, thank you," she said, ending the conversation.

"Move"

I smiled and got closer.

"No"

I got behind her and wrapped my arms around her.

I kissed her on her neck.

"You've been mean all day."

"And I told you why."

"Okay, so let me fix it," I said, kissing her neck as I slid my hand under her shirt.

She stopped my hand from going any further. I groaned because I didn't want to talk about it. I just want to fuck and go home, to be honest.

"Not until you explain"

I rolled my eyes. "Fine" she turned slightly in my arms as I readjust.

"Where do want me to start?"
