Adelyn Laurent; the only child to the rulers of the French Mafia. Treated nothing less than a princess her whole life, she dreamt of travelling the world, escaping her father's strict gaze and starting her very own French Patisser...
I stare at the reflection in the mirror before me, hardly recognising the girl staring back at me, her numb expression scaring me as she stands there in her white dress.
My eyes trail down my body, my dress feeling too heavy to be a proper wedding dress. Anton chose it for me, and perhaps in different circumstances I would find it pretty, but here, right now, the weight of it holds me down, making it hard to walk, let alone run away. It's too heavy, adding weight I don't have the strength to bare.

I quickly wipe away a tear which had made its way down my cheek. I wipe the smudged tear on my dress, my entire body shaking as I can't tear my eyes away from my reflection. My second wedding in only a matter of months, once again to a man not of my choosing, but merely used as a business deal for my Father, a man I've grown to hate also, a man who has shown me that I am not safe with any man, that I will get hurt regardless of who they are in my life. A man I no longer trust or love, and that breaks my heart.
The door to the dressing room opens and my Father walks in, flanked by two burly guards. He doesn't smile at me as he walks over, "I hope you know how disappointed I am in you," he grits out, making my heart sink. "You jeopardised my Mafia, do not fuck up this marriage too," he glares at me as he loops his arm in mine, walking me out of the room and down a hallway.
I bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from crying at his cruel words, why does he care more about his business than his daughter? What did I do wrong to him?
We come to a stop at two large doors, and I feel my legs giving way beneath me as they start slowly opening. "Please don't make me do this Father, don't do this to me," I beg him, tears falling down my face as he looks at me with no emotion, "This is your own fault for not being able to hold down your last marriage, this is the only way I don't lose my business and my Mafia," he says, not a single emotion in his voice as he continues glaring down at me. "I didn't do anything wrong though," I cry, shaking his arm as my tears start flowing faster down my face, no doubt ruining my make up.
"He was probably disgusted by your scars, it would look bad for him to have a wife with those marks," my Father says coldly, the doors now fully open, everyone in the room watching me as I cry. Too hurt to say anything I let Father lead me down the aisle, tears still flowing down my face as I keep my chin up and walk down to Anton, his greedy eyes scanning down my body like a piece of meat.
No words are exchanged as Father passes me off to Anton, my tears coming to a halt, as if frozen scared by Anton's gaze. His eyes continue to drag down my body, smirking at me as he takes my hands in his, holding them so tight I fear they might break. I look past his shoulder at the wall behind him as the priest starts speaking.
It feels like my head is under water as he speaks, nothing sinking in as my body goes into flight mode, everything around me becoming a blur as my body puts itself into autopilot. It's only when my arms are violently yanked by Anton that I come to, looking at the priest for help, "Say I do you fucking bitch," Anton seethes, only for me to hear, his eyes glistening with danger.
