I smile to myself as Adelyn continues her conversation with Duchess, discussing what their new home is going to be like.
Am I a bit jealous she's talking to a literal cat and not me? A little, but that's ok. Whatever makes her comfortable.

As we pull up to the house the large black gates open up to reveal a large gravel driveway surrounded by freshly cut grass, with a water fountain in the middle, leading the way to an old style Italian Mansion.

Adelyn gasps and quickly gets out of the car when I pull up. She rushes to the front door and I come up behind her to unlock it.

We walk inside together and she smiles to herself as she walks around, taking in her surroundings.

All our furniture and belongings are already set up. The downstairs is home to the grandest kitchen I've ever seen, the adjacent dining room, multiple living rooms, bathrooms, veranda as well as stairs leading down to a home cinema.

Two magnificent staircases lead to the upstairs floor where too many bedrooms can be found, along with my office, a smaller living room, and more bathrooms are placed.

Much to my dismay Adelyn requested separate bedrooms, but they're right next door to each other so we're still close. Although I would have preferred to share, this move has already been hard enough on her so I won't force anything else onto her.

I walk into her room and find her how I did on the night of our wedding, on her balcony overlooking the view.

"Are you ok?" I ask, already knowing the answer.

She hums in response.

"That's not an answer," I say, a part of me hoping she'll finally tell me what's wrong.

"I'm fine," she says quietly, turning around to come back inside, "I'm just going to have a shower," she offers me a small smile before making her way to her walk-in-robe.

"Ok," I sigh, feeling defeated, "I'll be in the kitchen making dinner," I say, before walking into my own room.

I change into some grey sweats and a black hoodie before going downstairs to start on dinner.

First, I put on the fireplace in the dining room to warm the two rooms up before I start making some pasta. I think it's a pasta sort of night.

———

I smile as I look at the bowls in front of me, I think it's the best smelling pasta I've ever made, perfect for our first night in the new house.

Just as I'm about to go up to get Adelyn I see her in the doorframe of the kitchen.

"Where do you wanna eat?" I ask her, picking up our bowls.

"We may as well eat in the dining room since the fire's on," she shrugs, walking into the now warmed up room.

She sits down at the table and I sit down next to her, putting her food in front of her. She gives me a confused look, "Aren't you gonna sit at the head of the table?" she asks.

I shake my head, "Why would I do that when it's just us two?" I ask, now also confused.

"I don't know, just a thought," she says, twirling some pasta around her fork.

"Do you like it?" I ask, suddenly wanting her approval.

She nods as her mouth is full of pasta, she swallows and wipes her mouth, "It's actually very good," she says in a casual tone, but by the look in her eyes I can tell it's probably the best thing she's ever tasted.

I study her face to look for any hints she might be lying but I don't find any and start eating my own dinner.

A comfortable silence falls between us as we both finish our dinner in peace.
I look over to her a see her just staring at her food and poking it around with her fork, now occurring to me that she's been acting off ever since we've been home.
