Two of a kind
Chapter 68

Daryl POV

I don't want today to happen. I still can feel her here. It's been a week but I can feel her presence in the house.

"Dad it's time." I look at myself I'm in a dark suit Erin would think I looked good. I wanted to look good for her.

"Thanks Jennifer."

We walk to the car and head to the church. As we do I see her coffin she's really gone. I start crying again.

"Dad it's okay let it out. If you have to cry then cry. I don't think I've cried as much in my life."

Every member of our family is here.

"Mr Dixon, I'm really sorry for your lost Erin was a nice lady."

"Thanks Carl."

"Aye brother Erin is with her other family now. Yeah she is leaving you but she's not alone I have to believe Murphy, Carol, Jessie and Eric are going to look after her and she will be there waiting for you just like Jessie will be when I leave here and you know I'm okay with that if I get to see my family again my wife, my brother and my dad."

"Thanks brother."

"Same here Daryl, Erin is in a better place brother maybe she wasn't able to do everything she wanted to do so she was taken to a place where she could."

"Thank you Glenn."

"Everybody the ceremony is about to begin."

We take our seats I have Iggy on one side and Jennifer on the other she's already crying I think she's taken this the hardest out of all the kids, her and Erin had a special bond.

I normally talk but I was asked to pass over to her daughter Beth as she wanted to honour her mother.

I watcher Beth walk to the podium.

"Erin Dixon lead an extraordinary life, considering the time she lived in to survive the outbreak and to not only help others but to find love and have a family that is a miracle in itself. Nearly forty five years ago she and her brother Eric arrived in the town of Alexandria. She was given the task of rebuilding the town's people, her and Eric would go out and try and find survivors, for two years she did that go out sometimes finding people sometimes there was no one there, but on one trip everything changed, she spotted a group a big group fourteen in total and got them to comeback here and in amongst that group was to be the love of her life."

"Mom always said she fell in love with dad pretty much straight away. She said she wanted to hug him but knew he wouldn't want that. Mom always said she spoke for the both of them which is true sometimes mom would talk a mile a minute then dad say one or two things, she always said that she spoke enough for the both of them. Mom was the kind of woman you wanted to grow up to be, I can only hope that I am that lucky she was a strong woman a survivor and a good mother I can only hope I am that lucky to be that good of a mom she loved each and everyone of us evenly thou Jennifer we all know she love you so much I think cause you were her baby, personally I was okay with that we had had mom for a lot longer then you had."

"Mom never gave up on any of us she always supported us in what we wanted to pursue. Like Hunter's dream to be a doctor, Shelley wanting to be a dancer, Merlynn dream to be an artist, George wanted nothing more then to follow dad's footstep in the car industry, she fully supported my dream to become a writer and even suggested doing a novel on mom and dad and you know I did it eventually became a best seller and they are making it into a movie, she would be very proud of it. I remember coming home in the afternoons wen Erica and mom were having cooking days the house would smell fantastic she encouraged Erica to become a chef and she is now one of the best in Washington, Ignatius always showed your creative flair I'm glad you could put that into a career, Billy mom was so surprised by your talent she always said she had no idea where I came from but she never let you waste your God given talent and now look at you brother performing on stages all over the world and they baby of the family Jennifer mom knows you will do good in this world for women don't give up on your dream, she knew you meant what you said that you never wanted other women to have to go through what she did.

"I don't know what else to say but if I can be half as good as mom in being a wife and mother I'll be happy. I'd like to thank you all for coming it means a lot to know Erin meant so much to so many people, that her life mattered."

Tyson went up and help Beth back to her seat.

I watched the boys and Tyson and Travis carry Erin's coffin to the hearse. I Walked behind them Jennifer was hugging one side and Merlynn the other.

We arrived at the cemetery I watch Erin's coffin enter the earth, I know eventually we will meet again. As I place a Cherokee rose on her plot and walk away.
