Chapter 3

Daryl POV

I had to get out of there I'm too closed in I'm not used to it. I walked out of the front gate. It's much better out here. I swear I feel like I'm being watched.

"Come out now! Come out now!"

"Daryl don't shot it's me, Erin."

"Dammit, girl I nearly shot you I thought you were a walker though I knew you weren't."

"I should be offended I don't smell that bad, do I? I had a shower and everything, you know water ain't gonna hurt you, you know. So you can tell the difference between walkers and humans by sound? Can you tell the difference between a good guy and a bad guy? I don't think Rick can?"

"I will when I'm ready. He's had it hard. If you're here to hunt be quiet."

"Fine, I didn't want to talk to your grumpy ass. Who hasn't had it hard that's no excuse." Grumpy? Me I'm not grumpy I'm being nice. Actually, I can smell her she smells like strawberries. Haven't smelt that in ages. "Oh hello, beautiful."

"What?"

"Not you the horse buttons the kids call him buttons I've been trying to catch him for weeks but haven't had much luck."

"Well, you didn't have me here. I'll give it a go." I grab the rope she has and walk toward the horse but he runs away. She laughed at me.

"Good to see I'm not the only one that can't get him. I don't think he wants me to ride him. I just wanna ride something that beautiful." Oh god, that made me start to get hard I don't know if she meant it or it was an innocent remark. She probably can have any guy she wants she wouldn't look at me.

"So what's it like living here?"

"Oh, it's okay the people are fairly narrow-minded I don't know if you know but Eric he's gay, and they look down on him that's why I take him with me plus the whole we know what each other is thinking it is a bonus. He saved me two days ago I would've been raped or worse." We see the horse again but the silly thing has runs toward a herd and was taken down. "Goddammit, all you had to do was let us take you in." Erin raises her rifle and shots him she's crying. I'm pissed I take care of the walkers. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to be weak I'm not. I hate the waste that was a waste. I'm going home will you be at the party."

"Dunno." I watch her walk away.

Later that night......

Found some clean clothes and had a shower Carol should be happy about that. I had all the intentions of going to the party but as I stood outside and watched I just felt out of place. So I stood outside and then decided to give up and head back to where we were staying. I see Erin standing on her porch she's beautiful she doesn't look like herself she's in a dress.

"You not going?"

"I felt outta place. You?"

"I don't wanna leave Eric he can't really walk around and to tell you the truth there aren't my type of people either."

"Why'd you tell me to go?"

"I said try. You did it's the thought that counts."

"Alright." So I would've gone for nothing.

"Hey come on in I made dinner it's some pretty serious spaghetti." I watch her walk inside.

Erin POV

"I'd offer you a beer but I don't have any, I do have some twenty-year-old scotch. I'm thinking you're more of a scotch man? Am I right?"

"Yeah." I pour him and myself a glass.

"Don't slam that it's way too good and a waste of good scotch."

Eric and I watch Daryl eat I try not laughing it's really sweet.

"If you're on your travels can you keep an eye out for a pasta maker. It would make life so much better." Eric said I gave him a death stare Eric.

"Oh, you haven't asked him yet have you?"

"No, I hadn't gotten around to it. Thanks, baby brother."

"Ask me what?"

"Follow me." I get up and walk toward the garage.

Daryl POV

I follow Erin to the garage.

"Whoever lived here before must have built motorcycles. There were just the frame and some parts."

"There's a lot of parts for one bike?" There are parts everywhere.

"Whenever I went out I'd pick up parts if I saw them. Had all the intentions of putting it together but I wasn't very good at puzzles. I know you will know what to do with it, and you're gonna need a bike."

"Why?"

"I told Deanna not to give you a job as I have one for you. I need you. I want you as my other recruiter. I don't want Eric out there I don't wanna lose him." She wants and needs me yeah right.

"So you want me to risk mine."

"By my side not on your own. You know what you are doing. You are good out there but you don't belong out there. You have just as much right to be here as everyone else does. The main reason I want you is you do know the difference between a good and a bad person. You read people as I can only dream of. You have a gift. I could use that gift."

"I got nothing else to do. Thanks." It's so cool I get a bike she's giving me a bike. "I'll get you some rabbits."

"Thank you, Daryl. Just so you know I feel safe with you. I never feel safe with men but with you I do." She smiles at me.

"Thanks." I think I'm going red.

"Oh behind you is the door opener. Take it you can come and go as often as you want you won't bother Eric or me and you'll still have your freedom. I want you to feel welcome here while you're building it I want you to treat our house as your own. Go where you want."

"Sure." I pull the tarp off the frame it's nice not like Merle's bike, way too nice for me to ride.

"Daryl? I just wanted to say goodnight, thank you for having dinner with me I mean us." And with that, she was gone.
