McKenzie Tanner- Finnish (father); Dutch/Swiss-German (mother); McKenzie Tanner is a charming and sociable young woman who attends the high school and is successful and popular both with the students and the faculty. With an outstanding GPA of 4.0, she is seen as a star student and excels in both her studies and numerous extracurricular activities. Her diverse goals included a career in international law and fashion modeling, as well as attending university to live the quintessential college experience. She is considered kindhearted and well-meaning and seems to be able to make friends easily, being a great communicator and seeming polite to those around her. McKenzie is goofy, quite extroverted and slightly self-conscious, and she sometimes prefers to observe the world around over actively participating in it. She makes a genuine effort to show kindness to all of the students on campus however and is shown to be a clear, deductive thinker. She is smart and sneaky, while also practical, reasonable and mature, in some aspects, for her age, especially compared to her best friend Courtney. She is also brave, placing herself in harm's way to protect those she cares about, and has great affection and interest in photography, always taking pictures of her surroundings. McKenzie is a very open and friendly person and is often depicted by her classmates as being caring and compassionate to a fault. She always tries to be loyal to her friends, even when it is hard to do so, and often puts their needs before her own and has even been shown to try and help anyone in need. She is quick to rectify her wrongs and was usually the first willing to apologize for her mistakes, causing her to frequently be found mediating people's disputes. She loves the spotlight and has the ability to rally others to join her cause, being defined not only by her faith in herself, but her strong faith in her friends.
McKenzie is considered to be a mystery to her peers however, up to the point where there are mixed opinions about her personality. She is generally perceived as popular and kind, but also quite rebellious, as she has partied a lot and is a drinker, in addition to having an interest in the punk-rock scene and listening to the Velvet Pistols. She fondly calls her boyfriend Adam Summers a "hell-raiser" due to his sharing her music taste and style, while he refers to her as his "angel". Her close friend Phyllis describes her as a "fiend on her own", which implies that she was an alcoholic due to the influences she surrounded herself with. According to her parents, McKenzie is also very bright and has an eye for images and art, just like her aunt Lela did throughout her youth. Considering her school performance and the effort she put into becoming a model, she is perceived as a very ambitious person. She seems to have a positive personality, as she is often well-loved by those close to her and always appears to be surrounded by a large group of people. She is also seen as being slightly more girly and idealistic than Phyllis is, reflected by her love of makeup and continuous desire to pursue a modeling career. There are also rumors of that McKenzie being sexually promiscuous in her past, and several pieces of graffiti all over the Valley Stream community support this image of her. She quickly jumped in the bandwagon with a few of her female peers and was referred to as a "Stupid Spoiled Whore" when she temporarily began dressing provocatively at school. She has similarly demonstrated that she is among the more confrontational of girls on campus, both when it is and isn't necessary. She is followed around a lot by different men, as she is considered to be very pretty and attractive, although she tends to dislike the unwanted attention. McKenzie has naturally curly hair that frizzes in humidity, although she prefers to straighten it and wear her hair in a sleek medium-length style with a side fringe.
She recalls being rejected by a group of girls as a middle schooler due to her statuesque height of 5 ft 10 and her natural dirty blonde curls being considered unappealing to them. She befriended Courtney shortly after when the two sat next to each other in class and eventually became her best friend, with the two spending time at each other's houses after school. She especially has an affinity for old analog cameras and instant camera selfies and also seems to like obscure cult movies and anime, much like her friend. McKenzie also prefers to interact mostly with older people, as she believes that they understand her more and that she can be at ease. She deals with fear by inhaling for four seconds, holding her breath for seven seconds, and exhaling for eight seconds, which she calls "four-seven-eight breathing". She generally tends to refer to her older brother as "bro" and once came to school with super short hair in the eighth grade to try out a new "look". Her parents think that she's always "aggressive" with the toilet paper roll, because they saw her brother unravel the roll and assumed she did it. McKenzie has always dreamed of traveling and exploring the world, as well as going on "adventures" together with her boyfriend once she finally moves out. She considers turquoise to be "her color", as it makes her grayish-blue eyes pop out and contrasts well with her fair complexion. She is a very playful, dramatic, and smart individual who looks at life through a different lens, being described as healthy, athletic and full of energy. She loves to participate in a wide variety of sports, such as motor-cross, cheerleading, soccer, and skateboarding, and is regarded as flirty, clumsy, and imaginative. McKenzie's friends help her stay grounded, and they often refer to her as being "sweet, but tough", with a side to her that shows some controlling tendencies. She is a sassy girl who is very organized, knows who she is, what she wants, and how to get, causing her to have a bad temper that often leads her into trouble.
She always manages to put together looks that are unique and and manages to make a big statement by just being who she is. She takes the mother-role of the friend group and treats them as an extended family due to the fact that she is an only child. McKenzie can often be seen with her gadgets, most notably her IPhone, and is referred to by her parents as a "phoneaholic teenager". She likes to spend quality time with her boyfriend Adam is her spare time and sometimes considers him the "only real thing she has in her life", trusting him with her past and secrets. She also likes to eat out and has taking a liking to Chipotle, where Adam works part-time, and other Mexican cuisine, despite not being a particularly good cook herself. She is also good at listening to others and can be highly empathetic to people and their struggles, often being the one who has heart-to-hearts with those she cares about. Arrogant and possessing a bit of a mean streak, McKenzie is used to getting things to flow her in her direction and work in her favor. She is described by her less popular classmate Shelby Doyle as "the type of person who will play both sides of an issue to get what they want, but at the end of the day, will look out for number one." She demands strict loyalty from those closest to her and isn't particularly averse to seeking revenge against those whom have wronged her or betrayed her trust, proving to be extremely vindictive when provoked. As a person with highly rigid values, she doesn't take kindly to dishonesty, despite her own deceitful nature, although Phyllis often serves as her moral compass. McKenzie is a girl with a clear vision of her future and who she wants to become, yet the arrival of her cousins challenges this vision, causing her to become withdrawn and slightly anti-social. Despite her initial resistance, her natural craftiness and resourcefulness come to the fore as she retreats to her newfound attic hideout, seeking solace and isolation.
Realizing that she misses the companionship and vibrancy of her cousins, she makes a conscious effort to engage more with them. In doing so, she discovers that her presence and actions inadvertently help her cousins step out of their comfort zones and embrace their true selves. McKenzie often believes that she is the most important person in the world and that everyone adores her, although much of this is done to compensate for the emotional neglect she received from her mother Saskia, a journalist by whom she felt unloved due to their distant relationship. As seen through their interactions, she cares little for her daughter, even failing to remember her name on many occasions, and only gives attention to things that interest her. She is deeply involved in her studies however and adapts her knowledge into her love of math and statistics, which she plans to use to pursue a possible career in business. Although she has an ongoing rivalry with Myra Walker, a strong-willed, opinionated student whom is one of the few females besides Phyllis who can equal and stand up to her, the two girls bonded when McKenzie tutored Myra in pre-calculus. After a brief pregnancy scare during her college years, McKenzie experiences some setbacks in life when she finds herself unable to conceive children of her own due to her struggles with premature menopause. This fact brings significant disillusionment to her, seeing as she knows her parents could possibly never have biological grandchildren of their own with McKenzie's older brother Nash being gay and involved in queer relationships with men. She humbles down significantly over time nevertheless and becomes a much kinder person after she takes a mission trip to Bolivia and does volunteer service to help those in need. She also begins promoting more global causes and goes on to adopt a few children of her own while remaining happily committed to her longtime partner Adam. ENFJ 3w2
