Chapt. 10 ~ Crossing Paths

'Why did she bring me out here again?' Mute yawned as she thought. Miko brought her out for another outing. 

"I wasn't going to let you stay at home this time. Besides, you like this kind of weather, don't you?" Miko reminded Mute. 

"Mhm." Mute responded with a nod. She did love the cold weather. She loved how she could see her own breath and how she could be warm and cold at the same time. She loved that feeling very much. Just not mentally...

"I thought it would be nice to come out here. Being cooped up indoors isn't good for you. And it isn't that bright out today. Also, I had to be here. I am meeting somebody here today. You can go wander around. There might be something that you like and would like to get." 

'I doubt it.' Mute thought but nodded her head at Miko. 

"Once I find them, you can go look around." 

"Mhm." Mute nodded again. The two ladies walked around a bit more at the Snow Festival. As much as Mute loved this kind of weather, she would much rather be at home and underneath the warm blankets. And with it being cloudy but also not too bright out, it was also the perfect weather for her. 

"Ah, we're here." Miko said, gaining Mute's attention. The two stopped in front of a Chinese Parlor. Miko walked inside with Mute following behind her. 

"My, well if it isn't the lovely Yae Miko." 

"It's good to see you again, Lau." Miko replied with a smirk. 

"Oh, and you brought someone with you today. I don't think I have seen her before." 

"This is my friend, Mute." Miko introduced. 

"Mute? Odd name for a pretty young lady." Lau turned his head toward Mute and smiled. Mute could only express a fake closed eye smile as she bowed her head in respects. "A quiet one. It's nice to meet you, Mute. I am Lau. I'm sure Miko has told you some tales about me, right?" 

"Nope!" Miko said proudly. 

"Oh, how harsh." Lau pouted. 

Miko turned to Mute and nodded, gesturing her that she can go now. Mute nodded back and began to leave the parlor. While doing so, she almost ran into Ciel and Sebastian. Ciel looked at her before saying, "Excuse me." 

Mute continued to walk pass them. She didn't bother to look at Sebastian because she didn't need to. His aura said it all. Sebastian glanced at her for a moment as he stepped to the side, allowing Mute to walk pass him. He gave a quick smirk before returning to playing the role of the butler. 

Ciel quickly turned back at Mute as she walked away. For a split moment he could feel her cold, tense, and ruthless presence. He nearly sent shivers down his spine. He could have sworn he had seen her somewhere before. Ciel looked back at Sebastian before looking ahead to see Lau. 

"Earl Phantomhive. What a pleasant surprise. This is Miko, an acquaintance of mine. She is the Chief Editor of many good written novels." Lau introduced. 

"I would like to call them more than just 'good written'" Miko gave Lau a cold stare. These two were always at each other's throats. "The girl who just walked out is a friend of mine." 

"I see." Was all Ciel could say. 

Mute continued to walk around the festival, looking at each stand and item to what each human was trying to sell. She didn't want to think about Sebastian at this moment. She wanted to do anything to get her mind off him. 'Why does he have to have such a dark aroma?' Mute thought before sighing. "Hmm?" 

Something caught her eye as she walked around on the ice. A ring that happened to be on an ice sculpture. As pretty as it looked, Mute could take it right now. But she wasn't that much of a big fan of jewelry. 

'Something tells me that ring isn't supposed to be there. But I'm not going to get involved.' Mute told herself and continued to walk around. Eventually, she stopped near another parlor with the sign that read, UNDERTAKER. The image of the skull is what caught her eye. But she shook her head to bring herself back to reality and walked away from the parlor. She was feeling homesick. She wanted to go back indoors. But how could she do that when she could still feel his aroma? 

Mute closed her eyes and leaned against some wall and sighed to herself. It was becoming too much for her. She could feel her heart pound against her chest, causing her to clench it. 

"So many mornings I wake up confused

My emotions are naked, they're taking me out of my mind...

Mute began to sing as she closed her eyes, holding her chest. While doing so, dark shadows soared out of her chest, feeling into her emotions. 

"Show me you're shameless!
Write it on my neck, why don't ya?
And I won't erase it

Need you more than I want to" 

Her song was like a calling. Sebastian could hear it loud and clear. Only creatures such as demons and reapers, and other supernatural creatures could hear the voice of a Fallen Angel.

Enchanting. 

But her song was cut short from the commotion that was going on in the snow festival. Bandits for the Hope Peace Diamond Ring. 'Time to go.' She told herself after witnessing what was happening. Before she could turn to exit, Sebastian was in front of her. Causing her to take a step back. But Sebastian wasn't going to let her get away this time. 

He grabbed her wrist with one hand and snaked his arm around her waist with the other. Mute didn't bother to struggle this time. Being this close to Sebastian could make her melt, but she knew she had to control herself. She loved playing hard to get... She loved the thrill. Being cornered like this. But the fun had to come to an end. But how could she escape when his scent is this strong? So intoxicating. 

"Not this time." He whispered huskily in her ear. 

'Don't talk to me like that...' A dark blush crept on her cheeks as her hair shaded her eyes. Heat rushed to her chest while being held this close to him. 

"As much as I would love to stay and continue this fun game of ours, but we have such little time." Sebastian's eyes glowed a pinkish color while smirking down at the young girl. Before Mute could struggle again, all she could see was black.
