Mute retreated to one of the rooms in the Trancy Manor as the Costume Ball continued. Her hand pressed against her bleeding shoulder. She was hissing in pain. "That hurt!" She yelled while ripping the golden silverware out of her shoulder. She yelped before whimpering at the sheer agony.

"Mute!" Miko appeared in the room in her fox form. She rushed to her companions' side and saw the blood on the floor. "That vile demon... I'll kill him." Her eyes began to glow.

"Don't." Mute sighed as her wound began to heal.

"You're bleeding! You never bled red before... What happened?"

"I don't know... That's why I left as soon as I could. I needed to recover. I left Ciel and Sebastian behind, knowing the circumstances at the hand. I was able to mend with the melody that was playing with my songs. It won't be long until it dies down."

"I noticed that the melody, too. It came from a demonic instrument. Looks like we're not the only beings lurking in these parts." Miko glanced to the side. "What do you want to do now?"

Mute stood up and straightened her outfit as she replied, "I'm heading back to the ball. The commotion between Ciel and Alois should be over with by now. Which means they returned to being 'civilized' beings to keep their reputations." She couldn't help but sigh at the end of her sentence.

"And what about the demons?"

"They'll do the same. They'll only act out of their Master's orders."

"Not with you in the mix, I do not doubt." Miko crossed her arms over her chest. "But, since the ball is coming to an end, we might as well leave a good impression for ourselves, mm?~" She turned into her fox form and hopped onto Mute's shoulder. Mute shrugged in return before heading down to the ballroom.

When returning to the event Miko hopped down from Mute's shoulders to linger around while Mute tucked herself into a corner and crossed her arms while waiting for the rest of the event to come to an end. It was only but a moment when she dozed off. "My Lady, may I have this dance?" Mute opened her eyes to see Sebastian standing in front of her with his hand held out to her. She gave him a dull expression before gradually taking his hand.

Sebastian guided her to the dancefloor and held her close, his hand around her waist and her chest pressed up against his. Mute couldn't help but yawn as she allowed the demon to guide her movements. Too exhausted to argue nor reject this time.

"How is your wound?" Sebastian whispered softly. Mute stared up at him before answering with a sigh,

"It's healed. I'm exhausted."

"I can see that. You've used too much of your energy. I'm sorry..."

"For what?"

"You had gotten yourself injured right before me, and I should have prevented it when I saw Claude coming. I never predicted he would attack you." His last sentence was laced with hate. Mute getting injured in front of him replayed in his hand, and it only angered him further.
