Chapt. 49 ~ The Attack

Mute and Miko returned to the campsite as soon as morning began to set. Miko disappeared off somewhere while informing Mute that she would look for more clues elsewhere after witnessing what they saw last night. "There might be more to this circus than we thought." She said, before disappearing from her friend's sight. 

In the meantime, Mute managed to locate Ciel first, huddled behind some crates while soaked in his own clothes. She approached him and knelt behind him. "Ciel-" She went to touch him, only to have her hand slapped away by the boy. Ciel's eyes were wide with shock and fear. 

"Get away!" He screamed. Mute blinked at this with her expression remaining blank. She lowered her hand and placed it on his back as she began to sing in his mind. 

"There's no heartbeat in this city
Lost in the grave I dug
Crowded streets look so damn empty
When you're the only one~" 

In an instant, Ciel stopped his trembling. His nerves had calmed down all thanks to Mute. "What did you do to m-" He wanted to ask but stopped himself, knowing she wasn't going to answer him. 

'This boy...' Mute frowned with her thoughts when she saw a fragment of his past just by touching him. She saw him being branded while being held down. Though, she wasn't able to look into somebody's past by singing to them or touching them. 'I'll figure that out later...' She told herself. 

"So, you  managed to find him before I could." Said Sebastian, all while making his appearance known to the two. 

"Miko and I saw something last night." Mute informed Ciel and Sebastian, catching their full attention. Mute gave away the details while Sebastian dressed Ciel into dry clothing. "Once Doll spotted us, we came back here. Miko is out searching for more evidence as we speak." 

"With what she'll find here will be enough to prove that the circus is behind this. We'll take action when the show starts." Ciel replies, now fully clothed. 

"You plan to do this by yourself? William won't allow Sebastian to go anywhere unless he is by your side." Mute reminded him. 

"Which is why Sebastian will stay in his line of vision. All I have to do is keep away from Freckle-Face since he has an attachment towards me..." Ciel mutters at the end of his sentence. "If all the performers are in one lace, I'll be able to collect what I need without trouble." 

'That isn't what I'm worried about...' Mute mentally sighs. Neither of the two knew that there might be demons roaming the camp, considering they weren't here when Mute and Miko encountered one the first time. 'If these two were to get caught in the crossfire, it could delay their chances. They don't know how strong these demons are.' 

Showtime was just around the corner and every performer was scrambling to get ready for the show/ once things got quiet, Ciel and Sebastian were about to take action but were  stopped by Joker with an emergency. "Black! Wendy here seems to have twisted her ankle! I need you to take her place on the trapeze." 

"Are you sure I am the right candidate for it?" Sebastian tries to sound doubtful.
