*Forever December*
*Chapter 17: Coming Home*
*December's P.O.V.*
My fingers tapped frequently against my desk. I wished I couldh ave concentrated, but it was nearly impossible. Not only was History class boring, but today was a very special day for me and the twins.
I glanced across the room at Roxin. Unlike myself, he was caught up in the History lesson. With a sigh, I leaned against my arm, wishing that this class would just end already.
After school today, I would take my babies home. They had now reached their third month of being alive, which meant they reached their original due date. I was so happy to find out that I could bring them home.
My mom and dad – dad being a successful lawyer – had bought the twins and myself a lot of things. They both had their own cribs, and had each decorated with certain colors. Rian's pink and white, Rowan's blue and white. Last night I had perfectly everything.
I had sanitized all bottles, washed everything, and put the final touches to their room. I smiled, just thinking about bringing them home.
The bell rang and I jostled through people to get through the door. This was my last class of the day. April would pick me up with the car-seats in the back. Then, we would go pick up the twins.
“Where are you going so fast?” Roxin asked. I raised an eyebrow at him. Was he really asking me this? I'd been bragging about taking them home for a while now, and he hadn't remembered. I sighed.
“To pick up my kids.” With that, I left the school. Since the day the twins were born, Roxin had been acting different. I didn't know why, but I knew he wouldn't ruin my day. No one could.
April honked as I walked out, nearly startling me to death. “Good Lord, Ape, could you have not done that? I was thinking,” I said as I got into the car.
“Oh? And how was that new experience for you? I mean, it's hard to learn new things. You've never thought before.” April snorted as she drove off. I smacked her arm, pursing my lips.
“Bitch, get driving,” I chuckled, glancing at the back seat.
April popped me upside the head then spoke, “Mom and Dad are going to meet us there.” I nodded at her, rubbing my head. When we got to the hospital, I was jumping with glee. My Mother and Father walked in with me and April.
“December Turk,” I said to the nurse at the front desk. “I'm here to pick up my twins.”
“Of course, Miss Turk,” the woman said, a smile upon her face. Her hair was a stringy, strawberry blonde. “Come with me.” She swayed as she walked along. Her stomach was only slightly arched out, but it was obvious that she was pregnant.
“Here you are. They're dressed and ready to go.” She left us to it. The twins were dressed just alike, only the colors of their outfits were different. I had been holding Rowan's carrier. I set it down beside him and took him out of the crib. He yawned, blinking a few times before his eyes settled on me. I smiled at those beautiful eyes. They were truly something.
Rian was crying as April placed her into her carrier. “Make her stop!” April squealed. My Mom shooed my sister away and tended to Rian instead. Soon, the babies were ready to go home. I signed papers that would release the twins, then we went home.
I couldn't have been happier. For hours, I sat on the foor in their room, playing with them. Rian was already starting to crawl, which excited me even more.
“Come to momma,” I giggled, holding my arms out to them. Both crawled quickly, but Rowan got there first.
There was a knock on the door. I looked up, finding my Mother's head poking in. Her blonde hair covered one of her green eyes. “You've got a visitor, love.”
“If it's Roxin, I don't want to see him.” But my Mom had already ducked out, replaced by a familiar face. Parker strode into the room, closing the door behind him.
“What do you want?” I whispered, picking the twins up off of the ground. I placed them in their cribs gingerly, then spun around quickly.
“Hey there, Rian,” Parker said, walking towards her. I walked into his way.
“You have no right to touch my kids,” I hissed. How dare he just waltz into here, after saying he didn't want them!
“They're mine, too, Dee.” Parker grunted.
“The hell they are!” I pushed him away from Rian, then smacked him across the face. “Flip you, Parker! Get away from-”
“Here,” he cut me off, holding out his hand. Inside of it was a huge wad of money.
“Where the hell did you get that....?” I was surprised...how did he get that money? It was more than I'd seen in a while. My eyes rose when he didn't answer. Parker's blue eyes stared at me as he took my hand. He placed the wad in my hand.
“I got a job. I got smart. Now take the money and let me see my kids,” he grumbled, walking around me. I rose an eyebrow. I still wasn't sure about him coming near them.
“I thought you said that you didn't want them?” I crossed my arms, watching him pick Rian up.
“I was being stupid. I'm sorry, okay? Just...let me see them. I miss them,” he whispered, pressing his forehead to our daughter's. Her blue eyes were the same metallic blue as Parker's. Her hair, as well, was the same color as his. I couldn't help but smile. As I had said before, nothing would ruin this day for me.
“Promise me something, Parker...” I began, looking up at the boy. He touched my cheek, stroking it gently. I had the urge to lean into his touch, but held it back.
“Anything.”
“Don't leave them,” I whispered, gazing up at him. “I need you...they need you.”
“I wouldn't think if ever doing that again,” Parker answered. He looked as though he was about to lean down and kiss me. And for a moment, I wanted him to do it. I wanted us to be a family. But, then there was Roxin, my fiance, whom I loved. At least...I thought I loved him.
I frowned at the thought, but shook my head. “Good.” I watched as Rowan fell asleep. His black hair was getting longer, it seemed, by the day. His eyes weren't the same as Rian's, but a beautiful green instead. The same my mother had passed down to me.
Rian soon fell asleep in Parker's arms. He placed her down in her crib and covered her with a small blanket. He smiled as he turned back to me.
For hours, we talked. It was weird, actually. I'd never really talked to Parker, I'd just had sex with him and kissed him. I sat on his lap, laying my head against his broad shoulder as we talked. He made me laugh a bit
Soon, I'd fallen asleep in his arms. It felt nice to have someone hold me again. Roxin hadn't for a while, so why should I have to wait for him? I didn't understand anything anymore. I didn't want to understand. I had Parker, Rian, and Rowan. They were all I really needed in this world.
