It was lunch time.
But Tokumei and Hitori were not eating. Their appetite ruined by them looking over and reviewing the exams they had before the summer.
'Stupid idiot me. How the heck did you forget to raise to the power of two not multiply by two? No. Forget that. How'd you forget that it's past tense not present tense in the English exam? THAT'S SO BASIC. How'd you forget that bacteria divide through bacterial fission? YOU KNEW THAT WAS THE RIGHT ANSWER, BUT YOU ANSWERED MITOSIS.'
Tokumei looked at all his exam scores. They were all 90 and above, but he didn't care about that. What mattered was that he didn't get a hundred. He berated himself in his head over and over. The relief of passing only existing for a brief moment. What was left was only the anger he had for himself for not being perfect.
'Must be nice to have good grades huh? Sorry, Tokumei, you're gonna have to deal with a drop-out once you're done with high school,' Hitori lamented that she didn't even get at least 10 points in any exam. She's for sure going to fail this year and definitely repeat.
"You at least got one point in an exam right?" Tokumei asked. Trying to ignore the fact that he hates his grades.
"Uh..., I got 5 points in the astronomy part of the Science exam," Hitori was heartbroken knowing that his expectations for her grades were lower than she thought.
"...Alright, I'm just gonna write my answers in my eraser. I'll throw it to you and then you can just copy it for the rest of the exam," Tokumei looked at his stark white eraser. He stared at his pencil and hoped that his handwriting would be good enough for Hitori to cheat with.
"Don't risk your expulsion over me!" Hitori scolds him.
"It won't get that bad. We're just gonna be suspended," He smiles.
"THAT'S STILL BAD-" Hitori panics.
Is he okay?
He obviously cared more about school than she does. The fact that he's perfectly fine with being expelled... Did something change? Or was it because she underestimated how much he loved her.
IS HE ACTUALLY WILLING TO DROP OUT OF SCHOOL JUST FOR HER-
'NO, NO. HITORI, DON'T GIVE IN TO YOUR DELUSIONS!' Hitori shook her head.
"No cheating then," Tokumei took that as a real sign that he should respect her intelligence and let her answer honestly. She is smart, but she's just really bad under time pressure. He'll just make sure that he'll boost her grades in other things. Seatworks and homework could work. She could always copy-
"Never thought you'd be the type to cheat. Since you're so smart and all," Hitori hides her tests in her backpack.
How is she going to explain this to her parents? If they saw this, they would surely disown her for being dumber than Futari. Futari gets good grades despite being 5 and here she is being an entire decade older than her and somehow..
SHE'S FAILING HARD.
"I'm smart because I work hard. I cheat because I don't think I've worked hard enough," Tokumei puts his tests inside his backpack. He huffs and slumps on his desk. He wants to fall asleep so bad...
