Plot:
> For the past few years, the cocky test pilot Hal Jordan has been a powerful and the only human of the intergalactic police force, Green Lantern Corps. One day, Abin Sur parishes in a firefight with the Orange Lantern Savages and crashes land on Earth. Hal is sent by The two Guardians, Ganthet and Sayd, of their home planet, Oa, to locate his ring and return it. Unbeknownst, the ring has found its way to an ex-marine and architect in Detroit, John Stewart. John was depressed after arguing with his boss before Abin Sur encountered him at night. Hal finds John and brings him into Oa, where The Guardians greet him well and accept him as a new member and Abin Sur's replacement despite his objections. Hal is also attached as John's mentor and soon he begins his training with Hal's partners, Kilowog, and Tomar-Re. Being accustomed to war, John manages to accomplish the training so easily that he gets a nearly equal rank to Hal in an instant, triggering Hal to grow jealous. But John is humble and tries to calm him down and tells Hal to accept it. During their bond development, John notices that Hal had a vicious rivalry with veteran Lantern, Thaal Sinestro. Hal explains that Sinestro was his mentor back when he was first accepted as a manor. But the arrogance and greed of the power start turning to lose himself which Hal is suspicious of if he's secretly corrupted the Corps. He went through some investigation and found some proof but no one believes that Hal is demoted for spreading slander.> Returning to Earth, a scientist named Hector Hammond finds an orange stone from space and goes analyzing it. The stone is powered by greed, so once he comes into contact with it, his obsession with the stone soon changes unnaturally and drives him insane. The stone slowly makes him mute and turns his head into an oversized but giving him psychic ability. When Hector is going rampage, The Lantern Corps from Oa is detecting it from its strength's aura that stood out. This attracts John, Hal, and others' attention and they begin to go after Hammond. The Lanterns find it difficult in dealing with Hammond but John's war knowledge from the past is helpful to handle it with ease. Sinestro executes Hammond before bringing his body to Oa to extract the stone. John then notices Hal's absence and after days of searching out, he finally finds him at a restaurant in Coast City with a woman. Hal is currently taking a break for a while from duty and spending more time with his wife, Carol Ferris. John comes and Hal introduces him as his friend to Carol before he joins him at the dinner. In Oa, Sinestro enters the lab and finds Hammond's body lying down. Sinestro suddenly executes the scientists there and steals the orange stone. Hal and John are alerted and fly on a mission to capture Sinestro. During the travel, the team arrives on the planet Okaara and finds Sinestro dealing with Larfleeze, The leader and only Orange Lantern Corps, for giving aid for a favor to keep his home planet, Korugar (which he runs very tyrannically) safe. This event proves Hal's words were right that The Lantern regrets distrusting him.
> John starts to devise a plan before going to surround them. But Sinestro soon outpowers The Lantern with ease after he switches his ring into yellow powered to instill fear in others. Sinestro persuades his rival, Hal, to join him as he senses the feeling of hate and jealousy inside of him. He made Hal too concerned about his planet dying after succumbing to war because those in charge (The Guardians) were unwilling to take action thus growing hatred towards them and started corrupting The Corps to gain power for his own. However, Hal is loyal and refuses Sinestro which upsets him more. The two start dueling before Sinestro manages to kill Hal. John's ring is broken in the battle at the same time that Hal decides to give his ring to John while crying and grieving in his lap. Once he wears it, a vision of Hal's old battle tactics floods John's mind and fuels his willpower. John's power is now reaching its peak that even Sinestro's fear energies couldn't match it. Sinestro and Larfleeze begin to lose and see no chance of winning. The two eventually retreat but Sinestro promises that he will come back. The next day, The Corps held an honorable funeral for Hal Jordan and entrusted John as the new general replacing Hal's position.
