When Audré and Dylan finally made it back

to the apartment, they immediately locked the doors and closed every curtain and blocked any mirror.

"Okay—we need to search your house for the note." Audré said.

"But where is it going to be? I think the Sins would've torn this place down last time they were here." Dylan huffed a breath of air.

"If they saw Sam with you, then they weren't after the note," he said.

"Isn't that what they want? If they get the note they get unlimited power. And they wanted to take revenge on Sam."

"Why would they do that?" he tilted his head in curiosity.

"Because Sam lied to them saying she was a Sin just so she could get here to get to me."

"She did that?"

"Yeah." Dylan shoved her hands in her pockets. "And then we ran to Willow Water to hide for a bit. And she said that there were some teenagers there that could help us, but all they did was give us a couple of rides."

"Then she obviously has a plan she isn't telling you."

"And you?" Dylan raised her eyebrows. "Are you just going to forget that you completely dumped on me that you're a Protector because of a sneak-out-night years ago?"

"Look, I was planning on telling you soon. But soon wasn't until a few hours ago. I had no idea you were a Note Keeper, hell I forgot about it." he paused. "I never forget and you know that."

There was a silence between them.

"Look, we should—" Audré stopped in his words and held his side, as if it had been stabbed.

"What? What is it?" Dylan panicked.

"It's Sam," he replied.

"What about Sam? Why are you holding your side?"

Audré was silent. "You weren't in this conversation when we were running, but Sam connected us and now I feel any pain or physical touch that she does."

Dylan hesitated. "And?"

Audré took a breath. "She was stabbed. But not badly. It just—hurts. She'll be fine. We just need to–" before he said anything else, he looked over to Dylan's bedroom and saw a figure standing there. "Joder." he sighed.

Dylan moved towards her room without needing an answer and saw Emu standing there.

"Hello there Dylan." They took a step forward.

Audré stepped in front of Dylan. "Stay away from my sister."

Emu let out a chuckle. "And why should I listen to you? Protector." they said 'Protector' as if it was supposed to insult Audré.

"Leave her alone. She barely knows what she holds." he remarked.

"Oh? A Note Keeper that had no idea that they held their power? How interesting. And let me guess," Emu paused. "You never told her you were a Protector until she found out she was a Note Keeper. Didn't you?"

Audré groaned.

"Audré, what are we going to do?" Dylan whispered.

"You need to get to Sam."

"But the note–"

"We'll get it later. You're right, it may not be here." Audré backed up a bit into Dylan as Emu came a bit closer. "Go, I'll deal with them."

Dylan let out a small groan then ran off to her front door when she ran into a guy with black hair and a dark blue sweater. She gasped and backed up a bit from him.

"Where's the amulet?" he said.

Dylan's eyes widened as she recognized the voice. "Audré!" she shouted, to try and get his attention, but when she looked back to the hallway, he wasn't there. "What–"

"You really thought Emu came here alone? They came with me and Tella." the guy said.

Then Tella came out of her room holding Audré by the neck with one of her tentacles. And Emu right behind her.

"Get out!" Audré shouted to her.

Dylan looked behind her and saw the window that Sam kept hopping in through.

She took her chance and ran for it. Only to be caught by Rowan. But once she got out of his grasp, she continued her way to the window and opened it up and hopped through.

Her landing on the ground wasn't soft, but from where she was, she could hear the Sins shouting out the window.

"Dammit! You let her go!" Tella shouted.

"It wasn't my fault! Plus, she's off on her own with no Protectors! She'll be easier to catch!" Rowan yelled back.

Dylan hid in a bush just for a bit so that she could watch as the Sins left the building.

Knowing full well that she now had to find Sam and her brother Audré without getting them killed.

"How the hell am I going to distract them when I find them?" she thought. She closed that thought down as she watched Rowan and Tella pass in front of her as humans.

Tella had blond hair and a more slim body while Rowan had black hair and a more muscular body. She held her breath until they crossed the street.

Then she bolted, having an idea of who she was going to get to help her. People she knew would still be in Gravestone.
