Hope
The sunlight filters through the windows, casting a golden glow across the room as I bend Lucy over my office desk. "Right there, Hope, yes." Lucy's voice can be heard in front of me. I usually avoid sleeping with the same person twice, but Iris's words from our last encounter still weigh on my mind, and I'm seeking some release. Lucy was the closest fuck and most convenient option, and I'm not particularly picky when it comes to these quick, emotionless encounters.
I slammed into her, as we reach our peak, I can't help but compare this empty experience to the thought of being serious with someone. It's a thought that both intrigues and frustrates me. I've never been one to entertain the idea of a relationship, always preferring the simplicity of no-strings-attached flings.
As we both reach our climax, she lets out a loud moan. I withdraw from her and dispose of the condom in the garbage. "Mmm, I thought you didn't sleep with the same woman twice," she says, fixing her dress.
"I don't. You were just a quick fuck and the easiest." I reply nonchalantly. My words seem to bother her, and she strikes me across the face with her heel. Apparently, I'm in the mood to provoke every woman I encounter lately.
"Hope, you're a complete asshole. Next time you want a quick fuck, find someone else."
"Oh, I will." I reply, the hint of a smirk playing at the corner of my mouth, rubbing the sting away from her heel. She walks towards the door and slams it on her way out, clearly offended by my dismissive attitude. I can't say I blame her, but I'm not particularly bothered by it either. I'm too preoccupied with thoughts of Iris and Imani, whom I haven't seen or heard from in a week. Part of me assumes Iris wants nothing to do with me after our heated exchange, but another part can't help but worry about them taking the bus to school.
Lost in thought, I'm startled by the ringing of my phone. It's my Aunt Macy. I put her on speaker while I try to clean the mess yet again Lucy has made.
"Hey, Aunty!"
"Hey, dear. I managed to arrange everything you needed, and the appointment is set for 4:45 p.m. today."
"Wow, that was quick. Thank you."
"No problem. And Hope?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"Tell Faith that I approve, and they shouldn't be afraid to tell us."
"I..." I pause, unable to find the words as she chuckles.
"I'll just leave it at that. But, young lady, you need to stop being a hoe. There's real love out there, you know."
"Hmm, I doubt it. Thanks, Aunty, bye."
The week has been unexpectedly quiet without Iris and Imani around. It's not that I miss them per se, as I've only spent two and a half days with them. But one thing is clear – I don't want them riding the bus to school any longer. It's not right, and despite the walls I've built around myself, I can't ignore the growing need to help them.
I glance at the time on my phone: 3:20 p.m. Grabbing my keys, I head to the elementary school where I dropped them off on Monday. I know I didn't give Iris any warning that I would be there, but I had a feeling she'd decline if I had. I'm not allowing them to rely on public transport. She's just going to have to come to terms with it eventually.
Nobody has ever called me out like that. She was right; initially, I hadn't wanted to get to know them. But as time goes on, my thoughts keep circling back to her. Unlike my previous frisky encounters, my interest in her isn't driven by my dick. Instead, I find myself yearning to support her and be there for Imani.
