Iris
Revealing the truth about Julian to Hope is one of the most difficult things I've had to do in a long time. Thoughts of Julian stir up fears of losing Hope one day, even though we've known each other for such a short time. She brings happiness into my life, something that's been missing for far too long.
In the depths of my grief, I sought comfort and closeness, leading us to have unprotected sex. Though this impulsive decision carried the potential consequence of pregnancy, I couldn't help but crave that connection with her. I could see in her eyes that she only agreed because she didn't want to see me in pain. My emotions clouded my judgment, but at that moment, I only wanted to feel her warmth and let it chase away the darkness.
Luckily, a week later, my period came. I'm not ready for another child, especially when I'm still trying to manage Imani's health condition. Thanks to Hope, though, her glucose levels are stabilizing, and her A1C is decreasing.
"Mommy, Hope's cheating," Imani accuses.
"I'm doing no such thing, crotch goblin," Hope retorts. The two bicker so much you'd think they hated each other, but that's far from the truth. Hope can be a bit of an asshole sometimes, as Imani likes to point out, but she never crosses the line with my daughter.
"Liar, liar, pants on fire! You hid one of your cards under the table before saying uno," she insists. Hope narrows her eyes at her.
"Prove it," she challenges.
With a devilish smirk, Mani jumps out of her chair, determined to find the hidden card. I walk behind her and secretly take the card from her before Imani can reach her. When Hope holds out her empty palms to show she didn't cheat, Mani gets mad, looking between the two of us. "Mommy! You helped her!" she accuses, crossing her arms. "I quit!" she yells, storming away from us. Hope chuckles, and I hand her back the card as she runs after Imani.
"Okay, Squirt, don't get upset! It's just a game," She says, trying to appease her. Imani crosses her little arms and pouts. She pinches her cheeks together to make fish lips, and I giggle at how well she treats my daughter.
"I don't like cheaters!" Imani frowns.
"Mmm, preach, baby! Neither do I," I reply. Hope catches my words and looks at me.
Pointing to herself while holding Imani with one arm, "Was that a pass at me?" She smirks. "I'm no cheater. Just don't commit."
"Oh, is that right?" I stroll towards her. "So, what is this then?" I say, motioning to the three of us.
"Just me getting my feet wet," she smirks, and I snicker.
"Mani, close your ears, please," I say, and she covers her ears.
"And your eyes," Hope adds, covering my daughter's eyes as she steps back from me.
"Is that all you're getting wet?" I tease, grabbing between her legs. She inhales sharply, biting her lip and closing her eye, trying to stop herself from reacting to my touch.
"Iris," she whispers, licking her lips.
"Hmm?" Her mouth slightly parts, and her eyes open, filled with lust.
"Can I open my ears and eyes now?" Imani yells, unaware of how loud she is. I chuckle and remove my hand from Hope's manhood, taking my daughter out of her arms.
"Go get ready for soccer practice," I tell Imani. She runs to her room, and Hope shakes her head at me, smiling, before taking a seat on the couch.
Her phone vibrates, and she pulls it out of her basketball shorts pocket. Wrapping her arm around my waist, she pulls me onto her lap as she unlocks her phone in front of me. I watch her enter her passcode, her way of showing commitment and that there are no secrets between us. I'm aware that my previous comment may have caused her some discomfort. But she doesn't have to go to such lengths; this is still a relatively new experience for both of us, especially for her.
