Ruby Winchester

Chapter Ten

Cas was watching Ruby sleep, Dean had asked him to watch Ruby while she recovered. Cas was finding it hard to believe that what heaven claimed to be a 'Mistake of Free Will' was Dean's sister. If he had known he may have told Dean about her before.

Ruby woke up and looked at Cas "Watching me sleep again" she said calmly.

"You remember me" Cas stated.

"I didn't realize you were my Brother's angel, but I can't forget that warm presence you have. " Ruby said, getting out of bed.

"I never helped you, do you not feel contempt?" Cas asked as he tilted his head.

"You did help me Cas, you helped me feel safe while I slept back then. Besides all my contempt is given to John Winchester and Katherine Skipper, no one else." Ruby said walking outside to smoke.

"You really have me on lockdown," Ruby said with a sigh when Dean asked her where she was going.

"You got taken by Demons, do you really think I'm letting you go anywhere alone?" Dean asked.

"I'm just going to the bar, I need a damn drink," Ruby said with a huff.

"Great, I'll get Sam and we can all go drinking," Dean said, making it clear that this wasn't a choice.

Ruby looked at Bill as Dean walked off "What is their deal?" She asked the ghost.

"Unlike John, they care deeply for family, and you are family Ruby. Stay with them, you might like it." Bill said with a smile.

"Fine, but you're coming with me tonight, Bill '' Ruby said, pulling the wedding ring out of her saddlebag on her bike.

Ruby placed the string holding the ring around her neck when Bill said "oh im allowed to accompany you again, finally over your two-year rebellion?"

"Shut up" Ruby muttered.

Sam and Dean came back out "Get in the Car, you're not driving drunk" Dean called out.

"I'm coming," Ruby said, rolling her eyes.

The three siblings sat at a table drinking. Sam watched Ruby carefully as her eyes darted around the room. She looked like a war veteran with the way she acted.

"So, how long have you been hunting sis?" Dean asked, trying to learn more about his sister.

"Let's see... 9 years now," Ruby said with a shrug.

"But you like Seventeen!" Dean said in surprise, being sure to not draw attention to them.

"Till next month," Ruby said, taking a drink of her beer.

"Why did you start hunting so young?" Sam asked, watching Ruby's reactions.

"Cause Bill finally let me after two years of nonstop asking," Ruby said, glancing at Bill for a moment.

"Was Bill your foster father?" Dean asked with a bit of anger.

"Unlike fucking Clyde, Bill did nothing but protect and teach me," Ruby said angrily.

"So he's not one of the people who took you in?" Sam asked, trying to calm Ruby down.

"The monsters I killed were more human than those bastards," Ruby said before drinking her beer.

"Is that why you started hunting? To get away from them?" Dean asked, also taking a drink.

"And to save people, but yes it was to get away from home, I only ever came back for Tommy..." Ruby trailed off and she looked sad.

"Who was Tommy?" Sam asked.

"The man I loved, even if he didn't feel the same" Ruby smiled for a second "He was a dork"

"What happened?" Dean asked.

"Car crash, met you two right after it, and you guys actually saved my life," Ruby said with a smile.

Sam and Dean understood what she meant, she went into that hunt to die. They drank silently for a while as her brothers realized Ruby went through more pain than she should have. Ruby eventually got up to use the restroom, walking away without being stopped by her brothers.

However, a few moments later they hear "Don't fucking touch me!" In Ruby's voice.

Sam and Dean got up quickly and saw Ruby glaring at a man holding her wrist. Before they could help Ruby they saw something incredible. Bill came forward and pushed the guy across the bar.

"Don't touch my kid!" Bill yelled as his ghostly figure stood protectively in front of Ruby.

"Dean... that's William Harvelle, Jo's dad," Sam said recognizing Bill from a photo.

"But... how?" Dean asked, confused.

"Bill!" Ruby exclaimed worriedly "I'm fine, go back!"

Bill listened and vanished from Sam and Dean's view. Ruby quickly left the bar, her brothers following her. Once outside she started cursing in worry.

"Ruby, why do you have a ghost following you?" Sam asked.

"Cause that was Bill, we have been together since I was six," Ruby said pacing.

Dean looked at Sam "We need to call Ellen, her husband is haunting our sister" he said.

Ruby stopped pacing "Bill, your wife is Ellen?" She said, talking to Bill behind her.

Sam and Dean then saw Ruby talk to and heard her one-sided conversation with Bill. Both were looking at each other in confusion, Ruby was definitely different. One thing was for sure, this was going to be hard to explain to Ellen and Jo.
