Ruby banged on the locked door as the fear from her childhood entered her. She looked at the barred window, she was truly trapped again. As much as she wanted to give up, she couldn't, there were vampires and she needed to find Brian's parents.

"Let me the fuck out Clyde!" Ruby yelled banging on the door.

The door swung open and a large balding man stood there holding a baseball bat "Shut the fuck up you useless bitch!" he yelled.

Ruby was filled with fear but refused to back down this time "Useless! Only because you made me that way you self-righteous asshole!" Ruby yelled.

Ruby saw the bat swing but was too scared to move as it bashed into her head. She fell to the ground in pain her ears ringing and her head burning. On instinct, she curled her body up and she felt the bat hit her back.

Ruby held back tears and screams as the bat kept hitting her. Clyde was screaming something but Ruby couldn't register what it was. The only thing she felt was the pain and fear that immobilized her.

Dean felt something was wrong, they were looking for Ruby's foster parent's house, "Sammy, we need to find her faster. Something doesn't feel right"

"I found it, Clyde and Janet Smith. It's a five-minute drive" Sam said, showing Dean the information.

"Let's get Ruby, I don't Feel comfortable leaving her with them," Dean said getting in the Impala.

Sam got in as well and Dean began driving. Dean parked in front of the house and got out of the Impala. He went to knock on the door when he heard a scream of pain, it was Ruby's voice.

Sam and Dean moved quickly, with his gun drawn Dean kicked open the door. There was a thin brunette woman who let out a scream. Dean quickly shut her up by punching her.

"Watch this bitch" Dean said angrily "I'll find Ruby."

"Don't kill anyone" was all Sam said.

Dean headed up the stairs and saw Clyde holding the baseball bat. Dean saw Ruby curled up on the ground behind Clyde. Dean was pissed and attacked Clyde.

Clyde swung his baseball bat at Dean, Dean grabbed it mid-swing and yanked it out of Clyde's hands. Dean then swung the bat into Clyde's knee hearing a crack. With the man on the ground, Dean kicked him in the face.

"Fucking hurt my sister!" He yelled kicking again.

"Sister? You're the family that abandoned that brat" Clyde said laughing through the pain.

Dean kicked Clyde in the face "Never again" he muttered before walking towards Ruby.

He kneeled down and looked over Ruby's injuries. Dean gently placed his hand on her back as he saw her eyes squeezed shut. It took every ounce of control to not shoot the man who did this to his sister.

"Ruby" Dean said softly as he picked her up. "It's me kiddo, It's Dean," he said.

Dean walked downstairs holding his beaten sister and looked at Sam. Sam took one look and understood, and both left the house. Dean gave Sam the keys to the Impala as he refused to let Ruby go.

"Did you kill the guy?" Sam asked as he started the car.

"Almost, took everything in me not to," Dean said looking at Ruby. "The hell she must have gone through in that house... if I had never forgotten her..." Dean trailed off.

Dean looked down at Ruby and gently brought her head onto his shoulder. All those years ago he made her a promise, a promise he never kept. He promised to protect her, but he failed.

"I'll protect you this time Ruby." He said softly as her eyes finally opened.

"Dean?" Ruby asked softly.

"I'm here kid," Dean said looking down at her "and I'm not going anywhere."

"Vampires," she said in pain "There are Vampires"

"We can deal with the Vamps in a few hours, you need to heal first," Dean said before looking at Sam. "Drive faster Sammy, she needs to rest"

"I'm fine" Ruby tried to argue.

"I don't care how fast you heal, any normal person would have died from this. At least humor me and give me some peace of mind" Dean said.

Ruby nodded as the Impala pulled into the motel. Dean carried Ruby inside and placed her on the bed. He was going to keep her safe, he had to.
