Chapter Eighteen

Ruby walked out of the tattoo parlor with Dean. Dean was proud of how well Ruby took the tattoo, but also a bit worried. He knew she was tough but he was starting to think her pain tolerance was inhuman.

"That felt weird," Ruby said to Dean as they walked towards their vehicles.

"You took it quite well," Dean said as he pulled out his keys.

"It's nothing compared to being tortured by demons," Ruby said getting on her bike.

Dean frowned, "if I can help it, that will never happen again."

"Don't worry about it, I'm a tough girl" Ruby said, putting her helmet on.

"Alright Ruby, follow me, I'm picking Sam up then we are heading to Bobby's," Dean said getting into the Impala.

"You just don't want to race me again," Ruby said with a chuckle.

"Of course not, you are freakishly fast," Dean said before driving off.

The Impala pulled into the scrap yard that was Bobby's place. Ruby's motorcycle pulled in behind it, both parking in front of the house. Dean got out of the Impala with Sam as Bobby rolled out of the house in his wheelchair.

Bobby saw Ruby and frowned "Dammit! Didn't I tell you to stay out of trouble girl!"

"I made no promises!" Ruby yelled back with a smirk.

"You two know each other?" Dean asked, confused.

"Bought her bike off me a few years back." Bobby said, "How did she meet you?"

"Saved our ass from demons," Dean said with a smile.

"You're a hunter?" Bobby asked Ruby in surprise.

"And our sister," Sam added in.

"Come in, and explain everything to me," Bobby said, rolling back inside.

"If John were alive I would shoot him for that," Bobby said angrily as Dean just explained about Ruby getting abandoned by John.

"I forgot about her," Dean said, frowning.

"You were a kid, can't blame you for that Dean," Bobby said, looking at Ruby.

"I got over it," Ruby said with a shrug "I can hold grudges but they only hurt me."

"How old is she?" Bobby asked in surprise "Because she's acting like an old woman."

"She's 17," Dean said.

"Actually, not anymore. As of today, im 18" Ruby said quickly.

"What!?" Dean said in surprise "And you didn't tell us it was your birthday!"

"It's always been just another day to me," Ruby said with a shrug.

"Sammy, we didn't get her a present or a cake!" Dean exclaimed.

"Im on it Dean," Sam said leaving the house.

"Guys, you don't have to do anything," Ruby said surprised.

"This is your first birthday with us, we are giving you a party," Dean said seriously.

Ruby laughed at the Walmart cake and box of beer. It may not have been a traditional party but her brothers were serious about giving her one. Ruby took a piece of cake and a beer while Sam and Dean snuck away to crappily wrap their last-minute presents.

"Haven't seen those boys so enthusiastic for a birthday in years" Bobby said while taking a beer.

"It's strange," Ruby said with a smile "but I don't mind it"

"They must really care for you. You are in good hands with them," Bobby said, opening his beer.

Sam and Dean came back with wads of newspaper taped around two items. Ruby saw this and laughed, she smiled at them in a teasing way.

"You both can't wrap shit," Ruby said with a smile.

Dean gave her what he wrapped "Shut up" he muttered.

Ruby just smiled and unwrapped the present. It was a cheap arcade ring on a string. Ruby put it on and hugged Dean.

"I love it," she said, smiling.

"My turn!" Sam said excitedly, giving Ruby the present he had bought her.

Ruby unwrapped the present, it was a cheap slap-on bracelet. Ruby smiled and laughed looking at the black background with yellow smiley faces. She slapped the bracelet on and hugged Sam.

"Thanks so much, both of you," Ruby said happily

"It was last minute, next year we will do better sis," Dean said getting a piece of cake.

Ruby laughed and they spent the rest of the night talking. Ruby was telling stories about her hunts, and Dean became worried by some of the details. He was going to get her to stop, she had her whole life in front of her, and she shouldn't be hunting. So Dean made up his mind, he was going to leave Ruby with Bobby and not let her hunt.
