Lissa's Pov.

A royal ball was a very important event for everyone in this kingdom, wheather you had magic of not, you are royal or not. A chance to catch the eye of the king or the princess.

But I guess not for me.

I'm Lissa White. I'm a maid in the castle.

I grew up in the castle with Jeph after my mother died of a mysterious illness.

I'm fully unaware of my sperm doner aka my father or who he was. No one knew him or that's what everyone told me.

Well. Nothing good came by digging into my past, except pain and heartache.

"Princess Mathilda Kensington arriving" Steward declared.

Princess Mathilda entered the hall in a beautiful gown which was glowing like fireflies were trapped in the folds. It was sleeveless and off shoulder with sweetheart neck. The skirt had layers and layers of cloth which made her thin waist look even thinner.

I was awe struck by her looks

I was awe struck by her looks. I can't believe this is the gown I made, the result of the sleepless nights was worth it.

"Get it moving Lissa. Stop staring at her. You made that gown, no need to behave like you are watching it for first time " Jeph whispered in my ear.

"Uhm, right"

I moved through the crowd who was still staring at the princess. He was right that it's not the first time I was saw the gown but it looked so much better on her than i imagined.

"Give me drink" Duke called.

I moved towards him and offered the last glass of spiced wine to him.

I started to turn but he grabbed my waist and pulled me towards him.

"You are a pretty little girl. What is your name darling?"

He reeked of alcohol as he tried to smack a kiss on my cheek. I pushed him away but he was stronger than me.

Suddenly, someone grabbed him and threw him away from me.

Jeph, that someone was Jeph. He saved me.

This commotion dragged everyone's attention to us. Duke stood there, eyes full of blood and breathing like a bull.

"You dare to touch me!?!" He shouted.

Princess Mathilda came and stood in front of me.

"What is happening here Duke Rayland?"

"She tried to kill me, Your Highness"

"What?" I exclaimed.

"You heard me right girl." He sneed at me and then turned towards the King who reached us. "She asked to spend a night with me in exchange of money but i refused and then she tried to blackmail me by saying that I tried to manhandle her. It also didn't work so she tried to kill me. Here, look at the nail scars she gave me"

He showed his wrist and neck where I had scratched him in order to leave. Now he was making it look like I'm in fault.

"No no Your Highness. He grabbed me and..."

"Be quite girl. I'm the king. What I say is the truth. The Duke would never do anything that would harm his or our kingdom's reputation."

"But.."

"You are at fault and now you will be judged for your crime." He continued without allowing me to speak.

Princess Mathilda tried to speak but she too, was unable to make him see the reason. She grabbed my hand and tried to soothe me but it was useless.

"You are found guilty for your crimes and this court gives you the punishment that you will be sent to the dark forest with one bottle of water, one bottle of wine, one loaf of bread and one weapon of your choice. If you survive the wildness for 12 months, you will be welcomed in the castle. Now go and prepare for your departure."

My world stopped and started and stopped again as he finished speaking.

The dark forest is full of wild beasts and dark magic. No one would have survived there for 12 hours, much less for 12 months.

But my fate is sealed and my life has came to its end. No matter what I do, I can't stop the wheels of time.

Hey readers. Hope you enjoyed the chapter.

Now time for a question.
