(A/n: I'm gonna try to follow the actual timeline for this one to the best of my ability 🫠. Also I'm Canadian they're starting school in September not august you weirdos.)

That was the first day I got a taste of Miguel and Johnnys world.
_
"Honey stop playing with your food." Mom sits across from me at the table, swirling the red wine in her glass. Poaching Avery and I for the details over the first day of school. I dismiss her criticism, and continue to poke at my plate full of fried rice. While Avery talks about next months halloween dance.
My eyes were glued to my plate, flashing back to this afternoon and my early lunch trey. I ended up thinking about Yasmine and her friends, making fun of me and mine. After all that, I wasn't very hungry. Thoughts of Kyler and Bruck's replayed in my mind all day, shaking my confidence and everything that comes with it.
Eli and the new kid, Miguel, we're a close second to occupying the space in my mind. Even though lunch was rough, at least my friends made the rest of the day bearable. Still, I couldn't shake the uneasiness from what happened in the girls washroom this morning.
I really wasn't safe anywhere.
"So Missy how was your day?"
I look up to see my dad refilling his glass of wine. He gives me a sharp look, probing me with his eyes for the answer. I simply shrug in response not saying much.
"Fine I guess."
"Fine, that's all?" Mom pressed on the topic.
"Yeah."
"You need to learn how to have more fun and make better friends." Avery chimes in. I immediately take offence, she just doesn't get it. Not all of us like people or have the patience for assholes like her friends.
"And you need to learn how to mind your own business."
"Hey! Don't say that." Mom cautions shooting me a glare. Of course she takes her side, even though Avery just insulted me and my friends.
"What?! I'm just saying, at least my friends are real!" I wasn't trying to be an ass, I guess to them it just came out that way. Often times, people don't like listening to the truth.
"Stop being a smart ass and finish your dinner." Dad points to my full plate. I look down at it, dreading the next few bites. I don't know, but I just can't do it.
Like is it just me or is it really hot in here?!"Why are you always so bitchy, can't you be nice for once?!"
"I am nice."
"You're both nice, now quit arguing and finish your meals!" Mom intervenes with her motherly tendencies, where she thinks she's actually solving the problem. Only in this case she's doing everything but solving the problem. Typical for this family, we sweep everything under the rug.
You should see us during holidays! A real happy family we are. So not stressful at all, can't wait for Christmas! Where all we talk about was how shiny Avery's life is.
