I was loaded some kids onto a boat when I was watching the headlights coming our way.

"We need to hurry it up Sammy! This is turning to shit!" I said annoyed. He just glared at me from where he was loading another raft of people.

"If you hadn't insisted on waiting..."

"And if you would cut the shit and just move!" I yelled as I got everyone on the raft, I was filling so I pushed it into the water, and they took off. I looked and saw everyone near me was on a raft and I ran up the beach.

"Where are you going?" Sammy yelled.

"I have to try and stop them!" I yelled. Get a raft here, out in the water. I will swim to you but don't leave without me Sammy!" I yelled as I ran.

"Are you fucking crazy?!"

"Glad you noticed!" I yelled back. I ran up to where the trucks were coming as they started shooting at me as they sped up. I started dodging bullets.

"COME AFTER ME! I started all this!" I yelled as they terrorist that we had been avoiding and staying away from for the last year had now found where we were hiding the refugees we would take and how we were getting them out. They all jumped out of their trucks, and some ran after me and some ran towards the edge of the water. I heard the shooting as they shot at the boats. I heard screaming and realized it was refugees we didn't get on rafts.

"Fuck..." I grumbled. I was trapped on both side of the shed and I had nowhere to go. I looked out into the water and in the far distance I saw Sammy in his boat with people. I had to make a break for it, I had to run, I had to go. I saw I had a semi clear path, and I just ran.

I couldn't hear anything but my heart pounding in my ears and the waves crashing. It wasn't until I felt the sting in my shoulder. I cried out in pain but kept running. I then felt another sting in my thigh, and I went down, this was it...I was gone. As I laid on the beach, I watched Sammy's boat speed off knowing that was my last lifeline, my line of escape. I closed my eyes dealing with the pain as I lay on the beach as the water lapped hitting me and every open wound, I now had the saltwater causing more pain. I closed my eyes and just sighed, this was the end.

"SON OF A BITCH!" I yelled sitting up straight and I looked around. I didn't know where I was. It was dark and dingy.

"Miss Jo, please shhh." A voice said in the dark and I looked around to see no one. I felt around trying to find a weapon. I felt someone place a hand over mine. I had been called Miss Jo since we arrived and started helping everyone escape a year ago. We were in Ethiopia, the jews wanted out, they needed out and they could escape to Jerusalem. We were here to help them, me and my extraction team.

"It's me Miss Jo...Nettie." She said and I sighed hearing the voice.

"Nettie, I can't see anything..." I said and she lit a small lamp, and I sighed seeing her. She gave me a small hug. I winced in pain.

"What is going on, where are we?" I asked and she sighed.

"An underground bunker me and Harvey built while you were here this year. He said it would come in handy. I didn't believe him but..." Nettie said, and I gave a small laugh.

"I thought I was dead." I said.

"The terrorist thought so too Miss Jo. They came and checked you and said you were bleeding out, so they left you to die. Either bleed out or drown in the water. When they cleared out, we came to get you and brought you down to the bunker." She said.

"We?" I asked.

"Me, Miss Jo." I looked and saw Nettie's teenage son Arthur. I smiled at him. He was only a kid, they were supposed to be on the rafts. "Theo made it too. He is out watching making sure the coast is clear."

"Why didn't you two get out of here?!" I asked upset.

"We got trapped in the shed. We were trying to get out to you both but when the terrorist started to arrive I panicked. I thought we could make a break for it when you did but it was too late." Nettie explained and I sighed. I took the light from Nettie and looked at my shoulder and groaned.

"I was able to get the bullet from your shoulder...but your thigh..." Nettie said and I took the light and saw a hole on my leg, but it didn't get clean through. I felt around the wound and could feel the bullet and sighed.

"I need something to make a bigger incision and something to pull it out." I said and she started looking around.

"What are you going to do?" Arthur asked and I sighed.

"You may not want to watch." I said and he turned around as Nettie handed me everything.

"You can't do it yourself Miss Jo." Nettie said and I groaned.

"I have done surgery and help Sammy a million times while we were here." I said and she groaned.

"Not on yourself!" Nettie said and I shook my head.

"First time for everything. Is there anything I can bite down on?" I asked and she handed me a rag. I put it in my mouth and made a small incision in my leg making the bullet hole bigger. I was trying to steady my breathing knowing this next part was going to suck. I took the small tongs that Nettie had giving me and started digging in my leg looking for the bullet. I screamed in pain a few times. I finally grabbed it and pulled it out, passing out soon after.

I wasn't sure how long I had been out this time when I came to my leg was stitched up.

"Nettie?!" I asked and she stood up from beside me. I saw Arthur and Theo in the bunker as well. Nettie sighed seeing me awake.

"We thought we lost you." Nettie said and I just shook my head.

"Never." I said and felt my leg and felt it stitched up. I looked around.

"What does it look like out there?" I asked Theo.

"They have cleared out, I ventured, and they left the Diving Resort untouched for the most part. I checked the radio, and it was outside shot up. Along with all the buses and trucks damaged." Theo sighed and groaned.

"So, we are stranded here." I said and Theo just nodded.

"We were saying when you woke up and felt up to it, we should go stay at the resort. It slightly cleaner and better for you heal in a bed not on a small cot." Theo said and I sighed and nodded.

"Let's go." I said and started to get up and fell into Nettie.

"I think we should get the cart for her." Nettie said and Arthur went up the ladder to get out and I sighed.

"Not sure how this will happen either." I said and Theo smiled at me.

"How I got you down here. Get on my back." Theo said and I laughed but knew it was my only option. I got on his back crying out in pain from my leg and arm. Once we struggled up the ladder Arthur was waiting with a small wooden cart and Theo laid me down in it Nettie then came up the ladder and walked beside me as Arthur pulled the cart and we headed back to my now forever home.
